Apr 4, 2015 Billy woods' new album is out, it's actually released in 31/3, but I found out earlier today. I haven't seen anyone mentioning it so here you go. I haven't listened to it yet, but I'm looking forward to do so in the next days. Elucid (the one half of Armand Hammer, woods is the other) is featured in 4 songs. Henry Canyons has also 2 features here; he is an LA-based MC whose debut can be found here, and he's billy woods' and Elucid's labelmate in Backwoodz Studioz. I'm unfamiliar with Curly Castro :/ Production is handled by Willie Green, Blockhead, Messiah Muzik, Elucid, Steel Tipped Dove, Junclassic, DOSG4W, and Busdriver & Aesop Rock. Additional cameos are by L’Wren, Curly Castro, and DJ Mo Nicklz. Tracklist: 1. Lost Blocks feat. Elucid 2. The Big Nothing 3. Flatlands 4. Woodhull 5. U-Boats feat. Elucid 6. Zulu Tolstory 7. Warmachines 8. Carpetbagger feat. Elucid 9. Born Yesterday 10. Sleep 11. Scales 12. Poor Company feat. Elucid & Henry Canyons 13. Dreams Come True 14. Bicycles feat. Henry Canyons 15. African Dodger feat. Elucid 16. Lambs 17. Slow Week 18. Weeper feat. Curly Castro 19. RPMS 20. Dark Woods 21. True Stories 22. Borrowed Time 23. Benediction 24. Good Night Duration: 35'
Apr 4, 2015 I have heard a lot of good things about Billy Woods, but I have never taken the time to listen to him. (for the most part) History Will Absolve Me has been in my iTunes for a few weeks and I think I've listened to it once or twice, but nothing caught my attention. I think I was listening to it while playing some 2K and I was probably distracted. I remember thinking it was kind of boring when I listened to it.
Apr 4, 2015 You should take your time and give it another chance mate, it's worth your time. The production is gritty and abstract and the lyrics are intimidating (with some black humour here and there). It's not an easy listen but a long and dark one, and billy does enough imo to carry this record without getting boring (the production helps his -at times- monotonous flow). It's solid and has interesting concepts. You should also check out Dour Candy, it's top 3 from 2013.
Apr 4, 2015 I saw the number of tracks and how short it is and thought of Madvillainy. You probably got me into woods with that interview you had posted in SL, that was before Dour Candy if I remember correctly? That's nice
Apr 9, 2015 It's kinda hard to appreciate billy woods album without reading along his lyrics. Rap Genius editors are lazy MFers.
Apr 11, 2015 Just downloaded this. Actually recently got into Billy Woods and haven't even finished the other 2 albums, so ill probably get around to that first
Apr 11, 2015 Had it for a minute. Been meaning to dig through it. As an Aesop fan, I see Billy as the next generation in his lineage. Have to be in the mood to dissect his work though. Not a short task. Funny you say that. Listened to Count Bass D last night. He produced and was featured on an MM...Food joint. Definitely think his project Dwight Spitz influenced Madvillainy's short song thing.
Apr 11, 2015 that's a pretty cool connection to make, but the reason for the track listing on mad villainy being the way it is is a lot less exciting.
Apr 11, 2015 Haha, it was kind of a reach. Still, it's a less common structure so I thought I would mention it. Care to enlighten me as to why it turned out that way?
Apr 11, 2015 I forgot to add this on ym phone, could have listened to it yesterday in the train :// still haven't had time to check it out properly I'll have to listen to this mate. Also about billy, I agree, his music is not really "easy" to take in
