Mar 31, 2015 Nah I get what you're saying for sure. And we didn't shy away from embracing our love for it either -- it's a "tentative classic" as the article says. if this list was made even a month from now, it would probably on there. pretty high up. Roots, Badass, NWTS, and Cole weren't on my radar, but Im not mad at their inclusion. Mac Miller's 180 is a narrative i thought should be on a list like this somewhere. NWTS is coupled with Take Care to give a more holistic view of drake's recent trajectory. Death Grips is incredible, one of the best albums I've heard in recent years without a doubt, and one of my favorite of all time in general. Sorry you still think it isnt worthy of any praise, but I know plenty of people that do lol You'd cut Take Care? didn't expect that tbh WTT has grown on me a lot over the years. Haven't heard. I think only Taylor had heard it, and we didn't really let any one person champion an album (not that taylor really did lol). Im still really looking forward to hearing it this is all a foreign language to me I couldnt decide which one to go with, and then no one else really pushing for him made him fall through the cracks. Personally, i also loved records like Trap Lord or Step brothers 2, enough to want to include them somewhere, but i understood something had to give somewhere lol @CharlieWork campaigned pretty heavily for it. I just didn't give it enough attention to push for it, but i wouldn't have minded if it was on there. but by the end, we were removing stuff like Dessa, so the varying opinions definitely led to some compromises 100% think Beastmode is the best future record, without a doubt. Others might have tracks you like more, but I cant help but look at BM as his best work. I love literally every second of it. Probably my favorite project of the year you'd go with monster? or one of the albums? also, 56 nights is crazzzzy march madness, 56 nights, purple coming in, etc
Mar 31, 2015 forgot to add mister, it just came on I LIVE MY LIFE JUST LIKE A MISTER edit: AND I FORGOT BRIAN NICHOLS >>>>>>>>> *
Mar 31, 2015 yeah it didn't make my list. then you definitely have a responsibility to get up on it. what roc marciano and ka have done over the last five years is the most important thing in new york and i think will be an important part of ny rap history. d---, tell @captain awesome to step it up. his recent fuckery notwithstanding, he's one of the best working rappers. stranger than fiction is a no-brainer imo.
Mar 31, 2015 yeah, its all a fair discussion -- but given the admittedly constrictive/silly nature of lists, somethings bound to get screwed. not sure i agree with paul about wtt -- its too successful and high profile to be omitted imo. in the end, a project like this is mostly a calculation regarding the sort of audience youre trying to cater to
Mar 31, 2015 will do..im still taking my sweet time going through your top 50 list...shabazz palace is enough to keep me preoccupied for a while lol yeah that or luca brasi 2 are favorites of mine. by any means is great too i need to listen to gates more often. he seems like one of the hardest working rappers in the game he's intelligent too you gotta understand that a lot of this list was a compromise between accessibility/relevance and personal tastes
Mar 31, 2015 tbh my only personal regret is not being able to get h--- Can Wait on here. man that s--- surprised so much when i first heard it
Mar 31, 2015 @WPG re: Rich g---: I actually thought pretty much exactly what you said after I posted that, but it was a quick post from my phone at work and I'd hoped no one would call me out on it, lol. Rich g--- IS good party music, but it's definitely much more than just that, and I don't want anyone to think I think otherwise. it's hugely innovative and emotional, as you said Night's Gambit, Grief Pedigree, Marcberg, Stranger Than Fiction, etc: I've listened to all these, but not enough that I would feel comfortable putting them on a list. That's obviously my fault and not the fault of the projects, but at the end of the day, there's a point where you have to stop researching/scrutinizing and just run with a list. People are going to feel certain artists and albums got snubbed no matter what. I try my best to listen to a wide variety of releases, but of course there are certain scenes/releases I'm going to end up neglecting. I think we were arguing between C4C and Skelethon and the former got chosen. I think you might be correct that the latter should have been there in its place, however.
Mar 31, 2015 Most essential but you aint have "The Heist" on there...and How is Pinata the 2nd most ESSENTIAL..
