    The concept of celebrating a new year is so pointless. What is there to celebrate? We didn't do anything special that should warrant celebration, it's just another day. For example, my family members were having a celebration and I don't get why. What did they do that warrants a celebration? They didn't do anything and I have a hard time figuring out what it would be about a new year, that makes them feel they achieved something worth celebrating. All this means is yet another year of progress towards the eventual demise of humanity (Hope so). Some people want to believe that a new year is some sort of new start that will magically lead to imrpovement. It's so dumb. I guess it's a good excuse to consume alcohol but beyond that it's just such a pointless thing to focus on. Nothing important happes or anything of significance for that matter, it's simply just another day. So I just don't see the point of dedicating a 'celebration' to it. Perhaps I'm being an annoying debbie downer but whatever, this is the only appropriate time to talk about it.

    I'm truly not attempting to intentionally be unnecessarily negative, I've just always been confused as to what the point of celebrating a new year is. As a matter of fact, I've always hated all traditions and holidays etc as they've never made much sense to me. I just don't understand it or see the point of it. Me expressing my geniuine confusion often just results in it being dismissed.But I guess @emostar offered a possible explanation for it.

    However even in such case, it has nothing to do with any contribution by us humans, so why would it be logical for us to have a celebration? I just don't see what the logical reason would be for celebrating something which has no relation to you or any attatchment. Though I hate birthdays I could understand (Doesn't necessarily mean I agree with it) why someone would celebrate their child's birthday as you have an attatchment to that person. Though in this case, there is no logical attatchment. Sure we live on this planet but there isn't any emotional attatchment to it. Same for the earths orbit around the sun. Ignoring the talk about attatchment and other factors, it puzzles me that we dedicate a celebration to it. Shedding light on it can be logical but I just don't see where a celebration is the logical reaction (Probably my last post about this in this thread as I don't want to ruin other peoples' joy). I do hope though 2019 is a better year.
