Apr 24, 2019 Two things: a) this isn’t guaranteed at all b ) this is bigger than politics. It’s about accountability. House democrats have a constitutional obligation to be a check on the executive. If they sit on their hands & turn a blind eye to a president who’s committed crimes, what kind of precedent does that set? Impeachment proceedings need to begin. Also, everyone should remember this: A majority of Americans didn’t support impeaching Nixon until 2 weeks before he resigned. Support for his impeachment was in the teens when senate hearings began.
Apr 24, 2019 I don’t think the majority of Americans who voted for Trump really give a s--- about this possible interference with Russia. The die hard republicans I know always say can they just stfu about this wasted investigation already. However, most of them are hypocrites. If Obama had this info against him, they would have been outraged. I’m sure the Trump voters who got trolled by him and realized it, quit supporting him before this report was ever made. I mean constitutionally, I couldn’t really blame the democrats for trying to do some impeachment process. However, I sort of agree with @Head Bussa that it’s a waste of political capital. I think the Democratic Party needs to find the best candidate soon that can put up a chance against Trump, and start from there. Plus, Trump has so much money and ties that I’m sure he could really stall out these impeachment hearings and only has another like full year left in office anyways. They don’t have enough dirt on trump to get him for obstruction of justice imo. It could be a huge waste of time, when the Democrats could be focusing on the best candidate possible. Or idk if this is exactly possible, but since it’s clear people in trumps party were in talk with Russian agents, maybe have Trump sign some deal where he can’t run for president in 2020, or else they are going to go after him for obstruction of justice.
Apr 24, 2019 There is actually some speculation among legal experts that kind of goes off this. The special counsel referred 14 investigations to different districts, only two of those investigations are publicly known (Cohen investigation & Greg Craig investigation). It’s a possibility that one of those investigations has or will uncover evidence that incriminates Trump. At that point, the main thing they can do is just wait until he leaves office & then press charges. However, some speculated what if one of these federal offices offered the president a deal of some sort. Like, don’t run in 2020, cooperate with the investigation & we won’t indict you, would he take it?
