Feb 12, 2020 soo today one of the leading candidates (who stakes his brand on ideological purity) put out word that his signature proposal -- a proposal which put the entire primary field through the ringer for months on end -- isn't achievable so nobody should worry. Very cool primary.
Feb 12, 2020 This is weird because Bernie’s #1 issue since 2015 has probably been healthcare. Bernie is why healthcare has been one of the top issues for the past couple election cycles.
Feb 12, 2020 Am I missing something here? Isn’t the guy who’s saying that just a journalist and not a member of Sanders’ comms team?
Feb 13, 2020 He works for the Interceptor it’s almost a guarantee Team Bernie floated that talking point to him
Feb 13, 2020 Don’t think I’ve ever read an article on the interceptor before so idk, is there proof of this happening before or is it just another one of those media conspiracy theories
Feb 13, 2020 No this is isn’t the same thing as “we’re through the looking glass in Iowa fellas derp” - it’s quite literally how campaign comms works lol
Feb 13, 2020 No I know I was poking fun at myself lol I was just asking if this was a person or publication we know that sanders’ team had communicated through before because I don’t think I’ve ever read it unless I happened to have clicked a random article from there on twitter or something
Feb 13, 2020 FWIW The polls make clear that most Americans are very happy with the economy. In a recent Gallup survey, 59 percent said their personal financial situation has improved over the past year, an even higher number than in 1999 at the height of the dot-com boom. Under those circumstances, a normal president would have 60 percent support. But Trump’s approval rating is only 43.6 percent in the FiveThirtyEight polling average Gallup just released a poll showing that most Americans would be willing to vote for a presidential candidate who is black, Catholic, Hispanic, Jewish, a woman, gay or younger than 40 — but not for a socialist. Sanders carries decades of ideological baggage, having in the past praised Communist regimes and joined a socialist party that took Iran’s side during the Iranian hostage crisis. Point: it's too risky. too much st stake.
Feb 13, 2020 Every single poll the past couple years, except one or two, has Trump losing to Sanders head-to-head. Sanders does the best head-to-head vs. Trump. Trump is a socialist. But for billionaires and the rich. Sanders is on the other side. People get that. People don’t particularly care about Bernie being labeled as a socialist anymore. They care about his consistency and how he fights for working class folks. Point: poll after poll Sanders defeats Trump because people know he’ll fight for them @Papa Alpha Andy
Feb 13, 2020 This is wildly untrue. No they don't. Or won't. Like, I get the point, its cute, but in a general election that will not resonate. According to polling, literally just shared, also untrue. Get out of the bubble. Matthew Yglesias is fine but he's def part of this progressive echo chamber.
Feb 13, 2020 You know I'm Bernie all the way but many people definitely do not understand what socialism is and it scares them. They associate it with communist tyrants and latin american military coups, not scandanavia or places with socialized healthcare like canada.
Feb 13, 2020 And what's problematic is Bernie's perceived support for those types. Nuance will not survive in a general. It'll be scar tissue tactics all the way.
Feb 13, 2020 I’ve been rooting for Bernie for years and hope he wins this time. But the only thing that sucks about free healthcare is it’s draw backs. If anyone here is from Canada correct me if I’m wrong on this, since I was told this by Canadians. Living in the states we are railed by hospitals and health care providers but our chances of seeing a doctor and getting better are much better than any country. Places like Canada with free health care, if you’re sick you can’t just walk in or see a doctor the next day. Most of the time people wait months before they can see a doctor, and by then they’re either worse off or dead. If Bernie can fix those issues here in the states I’m all for it.
Feb 13, 2020 https://www.realclearpolitics.com/e...ral_election_trump_vs_sanders-6250.html#polls These go back to last March. And I’m 100% certain Bernie led in the vast majority against Trump before last March. If the socialism and commie label scared folks away Bernie wouldn’t be most popular among independents and also the most popular politician in the US for a few years straight, @Papa Alpha Andy Bernie leads in roughly 92% of those polls against Trump
Feb 13, 2020 nope. first, toggle outside the superficial national number. look at the key states. Pennsylvania: https://github.com/ndcohn/battleground-poll-2019/blob/master/PA110419 Crosstabs.pdf Trump > Sanders North Carolina: https://github.com/ndcohn/battleground-poll-2019/blob/master/NC110419 Crosstabs.pdf Trump > Sanders Ohio - Trump over Sanders according to Quinnipiac Florida - Trump over Sanders according to Mason Dixon by five points. You can cherry pick the polls + methodology but this notion Sanders is objectively beating Trump in the polls is false. Also, your point about independents/communism is conjecture - and wrong. I posted actual numbers showing the problem. You like Bernie, fine. But face reality.
Feb 13, 2020 I'm using actual # and making real political points. You want to be a cheerleader for Bernie, fine. But until you actually rebut me, you're a confirmed child. Politically, or IRL.
Feb 13, 2020 https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2020/president/pa/pennsylvania_trump_vs_sanders-6862.html Numbers.
