The public should see that but they won't. Trump supporters do not give a single f--- about right or wrong. I'm with @Enigma . It's got to be a fight. That "We go high" s--- isn't going to fly this year.

But yeah what a f---ing year lol.

Voters didn’t care when McConnell blocked Garland from the court. Doubt this would illicit any kind of severe backlash. Especially not in midst of a pandemic & recession. Voters care about other issues way more. Biden can tip toe around & be like “well...I may consider it.” That’s fine. I mean behind closed doors, in these negotiations, there needs to be a counter-threat.

This is actually somewhat promising—not holding my breathe though:

Fill it. We may need that vote if the election is contested. Dems would do the same..

this is a good summary of what gop consensus is lol. but just curious, what is your response to the fact this 4-4 argument...didnt exist in 2016. (not mcconnells obvious flipflopping, just the ~~sudden concern over scotus being a tie ball game..)

Anyway, here's Papa Andy's Coming Off the Mountain Take:
They move fast on starting a nomination now, they then give endangered senators like collins the opportunity to score some points by "delaying" the confirmation, but simultaneously use the held-up confirmation to motivate their voters, and then win or lose they are confirming a justice in december unless they (possibly) succumb to enormous unprecedented political pressure. as @Swizz pointed out, mark kelly potentially winning and being seated in nov adds a curious wrinkle to things.

RBGs death obviously cant be understated ofc. terrible, ball game ending news, for a few reasons. this alone could alter the elections stakes and dynamic, in a way only COVID has up until this point. we will see how it shakes out. im a little pessimistic as what goes down moving forward. will biden double down on traditional GOTV or canvassing in its wake? from what im hearing via friends in the campaign, every state has some version of this antsyness...but I can tell u all that the campaign is overall having legitimately successful voter contact, persuasion, and conversion, as well as driving strong news narratives (esp when you add in the fact that Biden himself just went to Macomb County MI etc.)

I'm sure it did exist but now the chances of a contested election are much greater. Does anyone think this will be decided in November? Yeah there is hypocrisy but its not one way.. The bottom line is this is politics and both sides are gonna do whatever to get that seat. I hope Trump picks a black woman. Would be interesting to see how the Dems handled that.

But im curious what happens if it is 4-4? What is the tie breaker if there is one? @Enigma

Tie in the Supreme Court means the decision in the lower court, whatever it is, stands.

Well, Romney is back to being a spineless b---- again. This nomination is definitely going through whether before the election or in the lame duck Congress following.

It’s imperative Dems win the senate and act fast. I don’t want to wait six months to remove the filibuster and then sit around doing nothing.

within the first week of the new congress they must remove the filibuster and add four justices to the court (if prefer six so there is no possibility of someone swinging decisions)

then immediately after we need to make PR and DC states and maybe even split California into two, making it much harder for GOP to hold senate majorities.

then we need to inact sweeping change over the next two years.

this isn’t how Dems have traditionally played ball but we must play the same game as the Republicans to save our republic

You know...a lot of people gave me s--- early on for calling Trump a wannabe authoritarian. I’d love to hear from those people now but conveniently most of them have disappeared from here.

more jacked for this than a lot of other debates in the past.

    I hope @Enigma's right and it's boring...but I'm expecting a shitshow.

Either way, I'm buying some beer for it, lol.
