A day after defending some of his Instagram posts in a Connecticut bankruptcy court, 50 Cent has announced, via the photo sharing platform, that he will no longer be actively posting himself. “I’m done with IG after tonight, someone else will operate it for me,” he captioned on an image of the words “Big Announcement.”

Some of 50’s social media maneuvers received added scrutiny by lawyers in the court who theorized that by posting images of himself with large sums of cash, he was perhaps making light of the legal proceedings or misrepresenting his financial status in court. 50’s lawyers argued that the rapper’s outward persona required such theatrics and that the money in the images was a prop. His ability to engage with fans and project success and/or financial comfort allowed him to pursue other business deals which would in turn allow him to pay off creditors.

50 prefaced his announcement with a series of posts depicting different homeless men. “The system is so messed up, the law applies differently to people based on the personal perception of them,” he wrote. “When you make money you become a target. Not only by people who feel [they’re] competitors, but by [the] system itself. ” He continued, “I have millions of dollars in my companys, the court knows this. I was accused of committing fraud with nothing but a IG photo. I can careless what these people think of me but it’s not right. Now someone from secret service asking if prop money was counter fitted. How the f--- would I know that s--- head?”

From the sounds of it, 50 is frustrated that the courts have turned what was previously an avenue of fun fan engagement into an area of intense scrutiny. If he is indeed done with IG, we wonder what that could mean for the world of rap memes, for which 50 is a generous benefactor.

When a judge reads a prepared statement to start proceedings to state they treat everyone the same in court. You should be concerned, I already new I would be treated differently. They know the difference between chapter 11 and chapter 7 they just never saw anyone from HipHop culture use it. #EFFENVODKA#FRIGO#thisimageiscourtapporved
