Apr 19, 2017 http://i2.cdn.cnn.com/cnnnext/d---/assets/150130102311-01-aaron-hernandez-0130-super-169.jpg BOSTON — Former NFL star Aaron Hernandez, who was serving a life sentence for a 2013 murder and was acquitted last week in a 2012 double slaying, has committed suicide in prison. Corrections officers found Hernandez hanging in his cell at 3:05 a.m. at the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley. Hernandez, 27, was in a single cell in a general population housing unit, officials said. He hanged himself using a bed sheet that he attached to his cell window. He also tried to block his door from the inside by jamming the door with various items. Lifesaving techniques were attempted on Hernandez. He was taken to UMASS Leominster, where he was pronounced dead at 4:07 a.m., according to Christopher M. Fallon, of the Massachusetts Department of Correction. Fallon said he's not aware of any suicide note written by Hernandez. He said that officials had no concern that Hernandez was planning on taking his own life, and if there was a concern about his well-being, Hernandez would have been transferred to a mental health unit. "This is a shocking and sad end to a very tragic series of events that has negatively impacted a number of families," District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn said. Hernandez was serving a life sentence in the 2013 killing of semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd. A jury last week found Hernandez not guilty of first-degree murder in the killings of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado. Before his acquittal, Hernandez on Wednesday was seen blowing kisses to the little girl he fathered with fiancée Shayanna Jenkins. Hernandez, grew up in Bristol, Connecticut, and played for the New England Patriots from 2010 to 2012. About six weeks after Furtado and de Abreu were killed, he signed a five-year, $40 million contract with the Patriots and went on to play another season before Lloyd was killed. He was cut from the team shortly after he was arrested in Lloyd's killing in June 2013. He was not charged in the 2012 killings until 2014. His death comes the same day the Patriots are making their visit to the White House to mark their Super Bowl win. Team spokesman Stacey James said the Patriots were aware of the reports of Hernandez's death but didn't anticipate the club commenting Wednesday. http://www.wcvb.com/article/egypt-looks-to-end-tourism-drought-after-new-tomb-discovery/9527285
Apr 19, 2017 Holy f---... He was a killer but still, RIP..sad story. Could have retired in his late 30s with millions of dollars, instead this all happened.
Apr 19, 2017 I definitely think so. He cried in court too, after years of showing zero emotion. This is wild to me because they were talking on the radio after his acquittal that he was going to try appealing the Odin Lloyd case.
Apr 19, 2017 Always thought that tying ur bedsheet up into a dependable knot has gotta be the most depressing s--- ever. He did it on the day the pats were set to go to the white house
Apr 19, 2017 Rip. But is sports center really going to talk about this all day? He hasn't even played football in years and did k--- a few people, only convicted on one I guess. I would do a short rip tribute on his time with the pats then move on.
Apr 19, 2017 Tragedy for everybody involved, mostly the victims families and his daughter. Most likely killed those 2 guys, idk how tf his lawyer pulled that off. Seemed like he was aiming for a retrial in the Lloyd case as well. Being a star TE wasn't enough, this guy just had to play gangster on the side. Was reading last night that he flew to the 2013 combine to tell Bill that he felt his life was in danger.
Apr 19, 2017 Also may sound obvious but he killed Lloyd because he apparently knew about the double murder that he just beat. s--- must have just driven him mad, killed Lloyd for basically nothing, beats the double murder and still had a life sentence to serve out.
Apr 19, 2017 http://m.tmz.com/#article/2017/04/19/aaron-hernandez-commits-suicide-prison-cell/ Adios, clown!
Apr 19, 2017 Pretty sure that's not what his lawyer meant when he said "hang in there" after the double murder acquittal.
Apr 19, 2017 wow that is crazy, especially after being acquitted from those recent murders...I think they were going to appeal the first murder too RIP Hernandez (tragic story) & to the ones he killed...sad
Apr 19, 2017 I honestly think there is something else to this story... he was most likely going to get out
