The fact Em is white has a lot bigger effect on sales overall more than Tupac dying I'm sorry to tell you

Yeah Tupac got the boost post death but Eminem over his whole career has benefitted tremendously from his skin color and demographic, it's no comparison lol

Exactly my point on this topic always. For once we agree.

If the criterea was 'white + good' or 'just white' or 'white + exposure'... there's been plenty of white rappers, V Ice being the obvious one on a WW scale and MC Hammer sold like he did.

(In fact according to known stats... MC Hammer sold MORE of his big album than V Ice did)

Vanilla Ice + Hammer is a great example actually as they both made similar kind of music, they existed as like white/black equivalents at the time and they sold similarly... Hmm, wonder why. Maybe because their music was the same and catchy and poppy.

What kids go "HE'S WHITE, IM GONNA BUY IT!" lmao, Why wouldn't every top whatever of the top selling albums ever be from white rappers too lol. If it was about people identifying with skin colour.

Pac has sold more than every other white rapper other than Em combined. Because of his MUSIC.

Sales are because of how the music resonates; catchiness. It can be brain dead, s--- catchy music @ ice ice baby, or it can be brilliant rap / catchy music @ Without Me. It's about melody and how it resonates. Combine that with Em's abnormal talent and you have his sales.

Nobody has 20 years of enduring sales because of skin colour, it's such a stupid argument.

    --

Also just as a final kind of argument on this... the race argument is only relevant in America. But some Americans think what matters in America is what matters everywhere...

In the UK - we give no f---s about race. And yet Eminem is the biggest selling rapper there too and most of the rest of the world, HMM wonder why.

Only for America can the race argument be made. As black and white is NOT an obsession in the UK or most of Europe. Yet Eminem is the best selling artist everywhere.

What are you basing this theory off of???

Are you literally just guessing this s---, or do you have a good reason for your theory?

    Great post.

But you're taking a big run up and smashing your head against a brick wall if you think any of these herbs that can understand your sensible logic.

They've got to be edgy and to stay 'hiphop' haven't they?? Easiest way to do that these days is to discredit an to tarnish any Eminem related acclaim by saying 'hes only popular because white people route for their own'.

Is that why Michael Jackson sold so many records?? He obviously worked this out. Made himself both black & white.... even made a song titled 'black and white' to appeal to a wider demographic because he was before his time right?? :emoji_wink:

This theory becomes ridiculously r-----ed the more you start thinking about it.

PLAYED a role. you cant really say plays a role. this is 2018, and he isn't even half as poplar on a mainstream scale anymore. I wouldn't say that is valid anymore as an argument. Perhaps 10 years ago. Not now. Em admitted this himself did he not (white America) he and a lot of his fans aren't stupid man.

So what is your argument for African countries?? Em is massive in Africa/Nigeria//Liberia etc. You would be surprised how many black fans em has in Africa.

Besides.... I'd be interested for you to elaboration your theory on Europe gravitating towards white rappers. What are you basing this on? You surely know that Europe is highly multi-cultural right?? Ie NOT white/Caucasian predominant??

That's like saying.... Look at asia.... everyone in Asia is Muslim. NOT only is this NOT true, but a very lazy presumptuous theory.

Fair enough. I think it's fair to generalise. You have a valid point re American idols. They are kinda legacy acts now for wants of a better word. Take led zeppelin for example. Not rap I know but same rules apply. They come with an album it still guaranteed no1 no matter how much it sucks. They still sell out arenas across the world. I know it's a bit of a bad example in terms of the fact that rock/metal is a predominantly white following, but the fact about legacy acts remain popular regardless of current musical output Is where the relation occurs.

I just think we mirror America in lots of ways. Post Malone is the mainstream choice atm. We just follow suit with you guys. He happens to be white. lol.

Trust me there are plenty banging 69, Pump, Uzi etc over here. Uk also has its own thriving grime/UK hiphop scene too so we've got artists over (and they're black too most of them lol) here selling lots of records that you guys probably haven't even ever heard of.

I think it more simple even than /white black. I think Europe in general just mirrors whatever's popular in America. There are however exceptions (legacy acts), that perhaps onbly ever popped off properly in Europe in the first place, so they've got no paper to earn in America.

    EDIT:

I was gonna say there are still a healthy handful of rappers that came out in the same era as (maybe even earlier) that are still talked about man. It's not just em.... Jay/ Nas/ Snoop/ m---/ busta to name a few still have an impact and hold a degree of relevance within todays culture.

Don't bring American politics into Europe.

Most of Europe don't gaf about race. They don't have the history America does, and the continued obsession.

London recently voted for a Muslim Pakistani-Indian-heritage mayor of London, and you didn't hear a fkn word about it right? Because nobody gives a s---. Religion & culture is a thing of course, worldwide, due to the media and certain events, but just point black race? Nobody gives a s---. Eminem is NOT big in the UK or most of Europe due to his race. It's irrelevant.

Eminem is the biggest rapper ever because he made the most innovative and catchy music of the genre. That's it.

If he was black - STAN is still STAN and LOSE YOURSELF is still LOSE YOURSELF; MMLP is still the work of a total genius, he's still a better writer and rapper than everybody else and still made the most resonant music.

He would have been the biggest s--- regardless. Black or white.

    Nah.

Even Em's best work... Even MMLP is not mentioned nearly as much as it should be. That album is a complete masterpiece. And I believe mostly because a lot of white writers and rap fans don't want to look obvious and like they just think 'the white rapper' is amazing, and so they overcompensate and under-mention him or under-rate his s---.

Kanye is by far the most overrated artist ever.

Most of 2pac's fans would have been white. And 2pac was huge worldwide in a similar degree to Eminem...

    WHY?

It's irrelevant. It's about the music.

They both made huge music which resonated universally, beyond their rhymes and they both made powerful music, more powerful than everybody else, and lasting music; memorable music which was just better than everybody else musically.

If it was about race then why would so many suburb white kids 'relate' to 2pac too? Over other black rappers?.

It's about the music and the exposure, period.
