I like her and can't stand her at the same time. Can't explain it. I also think the way her district is broken up is hilarious. She reps parts of the Bronx and Queens that might as well be different parts of the world. I probably would have voted for her if I was in her district (the closest town was College Point). I like how easily she triggers conservatives tho. Very amusing.

Lmao it’s the saddest thing seeing all these folks who don’t even make six figures (let alone seven, or eight) defend this system cuz muh murican dream. Would rather have a huge wealth disparity and s-----y schools and s-----y infrastructure and no living wages than to take away Jeff bezos 7th vacation house because of the minuscule chance that they’ll ever be millionaires. Y’all can just say you don’t care about anyone but yourself and move on.

Trump is president. Obama was a 1 term senator. Hillary Clinton was the "most qualified candidate ever". Leave the conventions that got us here in the past where they belong.

Bezos could buy a 7th beachhouse if he was taxed at >99%.

He made $40,000,000,000 last year. That's $20mill an hour if we put it into a 40 hours a week 50 weeks a year terms... beaches will run out of houses before he runs out of money.

there is still real and political value in having certain types of experience. of course the requirements aren't as rigid as people have often imagined, but trump is very obviously an outlier, and obama's short time in the senate was a. a central argument of mccain's in '08, and remember, without the financial crisis that election might have been a dead heat; and b. a higher office than aoc currently holds. he also had a community organizing track record that aoc does not have.

i'm not saying that a one- or two-term rep would be unprepared or ill-suited to be president; i'm also not saying that a one- or two-term rep could not win a general election. but i think you're taking a big leap in saying those things simply don't matter.

Trump is not an outlier. Trump is the product of the times we live in. Clinton's resume was nothing but baggage during her campaign. Obama's lack of resume let people see what they want in him. The "more qualified candidate" lost in the two most recent presidential elections. AOC can push for things like the Green New Deal in the house and do more than a community organizer. I'd prefer that in these dire ecological times. Not to mention Obama went from community work to senate, not the reverse. No reason to move back down the ladder.

The Democratic party won't let an unqualified candidate run like the GOP did in 2016 with Ted Cruz.

AOC will be 35 before the general election in 2024.

lol dude i ~get it~ but he was one of the most recognizable people in america for like a full decade before he ran (and pretty famous for the two before that); he is an outlier in the sense that "run for the presidency without ever holding a government office" is not a viable option for virtually anybody in the country.
well, yeah, of course a long career in politics can act as baggage –– that's why we went 50 years without a senator winning a presidential election. but, again, there are actual and political benefits to being a governor or a mayor, in terms of figuring out how to act efficiently as an executive.
i think you and i both know that you can sell these things however you want –– very easy for a credible, famous house rep to spin a grassroots organization chairmanship as a high, temporary calling.

basically, my argument is that, while it wouldn't be impossible for aoc to run from the house in 2024, she would be both better prepared and have a better shot to win if she were running as, you know, the mayor of new york or whatever
