Sep 17, 2015 I do see where you are coming from but i feel your thinking is a little too old school. Some rappers come up not wanting to be a battle rapper. Taking my favorite rapper at the moment, Future, would have a hard time battle rapping anyone because of his style but that doesnt mean he cant hold his own in the game as he is one of the most relevant artists out there. I would say song for song Drake can hold his own against anyone. He makes great songs period. He is also so versatile. He can make any song that he wants to. That gives him an edge over many who can't sing or can't rap.
Sep 17, 2015 why would i need to back up any of those points (apart from the battle stuff, that was improv) they were all proven true, nothing was the same was proven by reviews to be lackluster ect.
Sep 17, 2015 Kanye continually takes L's by your measure. Except he doesn't, because in real life, twitter fans don't decide s---.
Sep 17, 2015 I'm not actually mad at you @Poohdini you're an awesome dude. I just can NOT stand the credit that Drake sometimes gets.. it's just not possible for me to accept it.
Sep 17, 2015 I still don't get your beef. You don't like Drake because he's so popular? Or because other artists you think are just as good/better don't get as much shine as he does? You shouldn't let an artists popularity sway your opinion on them one way or another. He's one of the most versatile artists in the game. I've said this before, but he gained a huge following because of his rapping skills, became a pop star because of his ability to make rap/rnb crossover records, and turned into a superstar because he was able to combine those things together. How many people could make songs like this and this Let alone on the same album?
Sep 17, 2015 I'm going to ignore your op and just answer the title. In a way he is overrated but he also isn't. I don't care for drake as an artist, I think the majority of his music consists of repetitive content and themes. But I could see why so many people like him, like friends of mine who barely listen to anything that isn't popular at the moment. They say he is the best rapper of all time which I find ridiculous but he does appeal to the masses, he does make extremely catchy, music and he does influence our generation. I think the majority of drakes lyrics are simple and hollow which is why the average music listener will quote him 24/7 on twitter as if he is an amazing poet . He is easy to listen to, his music is easy to sing/rap along to and he is easily the hottest rapper at the moment (not looks wise, the dudes ugly). So though I don't like drake much and I feel like he has never made a classic (Take Care had some horrible songs) he is one of the best rappers right now to the masses. I can't say he is overrated because so many people feel what I don't. I think there are better rappers but drake makes catchy quotable lyrics and that's what most people like. So I guess he's not.
Sep 17, 2015 The problem is this: Whenever i disagree with a Drake fan, i don't get taken seriously and can count on tens of people attacking me antagonizing me with memes and low-class insults. It's true that those songs you posted are good. I like them. And they feel artistic. But Drake is simply not as great as people make him out to be. Now i KNOW that time will tell if i'm right (which i have ultimate faith in), BUT i want to also be able to speak my opinion without feeling spoofed. I'm just setting boundaries fam.
Sep 17, 2015 Drake is just a incredible artist overall. Comparing him to budden honestly seems ignorant. Both of them at the top of their games budden will probably write a more impressive song as it pertains to lyrics and content but he has underachieved in his entire career to successfully appeal to the masses commercially. It's not to disrespect or even overlook budden b/c have pretty much the dudes entire discography and the mood muzik series is incredible. In contrast to drake, drake just has a sound that all people appreciate and like. If budden was able to make a sound that all rap fans like the game right now would be completely different but budden has underachieved in that aspect his entire career. His mixtapes > his albums. Budden lyrically > Drake. But Drake > budden hands down. @Maximus thats just to compare him to one of the dudes you stated in your op... Drake in no way shape or form is overrated he stands on top of the game because he rightfully deserves the spot right now. I would have no issue if someone put kendrick over him or Cole for that matter. But Drake is not overrated he will go down as a top 10 artist when its all said and done... Kanye will be top 5
Sep 17, 2015 I love Drizzy Drake aka the 6God/6Goat. With that being said, no. He couldn't compete with Kendrick bar for bar.
Sep 17, 2015 Chad ain't big on Mrs. Drizzy either, but he'd be a lying gay n----- if he said he didn't enjoy some of Drake's music.
Sep 17, 2015 and not only that, Chad Warden's from h-town. He lives in the 416 because that's where big things are popping and little things are stopping. Dissing Drake here won't fly, Chad Daddy ain't coppin no Ls
