    As a former Wisconsinite, that state is so f---ing bad when it comes to racism. Madison's about the only "progressive" city, there.

    They need to change their motto from "Forward" to something else so they can stop pretending they're something they're not.

    If we are going to knock down statues it would make sense to throw away your iPhones and Nikes since they were made by little kids in sweatshops. Everybody is guilty of exploiting child slave labor.

    If you live in the USA, virtually everything in your home (including food) was created/processed using exploited labor of some kind unless you bought it directly from someone at a place like a farmer's market or made it yourself. Even stuff that's "made in the USA" can often be made using materials from overseas that were processed or manufactured using sweatshop labor.

    It can make it difficult to know what to because like I said it's virtually impossible to completely opt out of this stuff, but a lot of people making little changes will have more of an impact than a few people being "perfect." The vast majority of people don't have the money or resources to shop 100% locally or whatever.

    eh? that's a little glib, dont you think? no one is saying there should be a statue in compton of nathan bedford forrest...... but removing a george washington statue on GW's campus???? not to mention the do-gooder brigade 'enacting change' by committing petty acts of vandalism are almost certainly NOT from the dmv.

    as always search for the nuance here. it exists.

    and if you were a white man of any significant standing in the 19th century in america you almost certainly contributed to racism, whether its slavery or the protocols in the north. as you said, this brand of sliding moralism permeates almost everyone in the moment so why are we applying impossible standards against like, a statue of general grant. like tina fey whitewashing 30 rock, this s--- is ahistorical and frankly anti-art. it's the kind of culture war horseshit that trump uses to divide people. 'progressives' shouldnt lean into every punch all the time.

    When I went to the negro leagues museum in KC (thx for the suggestion btw) I was watching the short little documentary they have at the beginning and it was just me in the back and a dad and his son in the front. We were the only ones in the room. When they played the national anthem in the documentary the dad made his kid stand up and put his hand over his heart with him lol
