Protesting and fighting back against police brutality and racism has a lot of history connected with rap music, so yeah I agree it's different than Koolo not liking drugs but being okay with listening to it on an Eminem song.

i don’t think the chances are down to 0 but i would have had her as a heavy favorite before this week, and now i think it’s like 90 percent it won’t be her.

the fact that her record as a prosecutor was so suspect in general (declining to pursue cases against more than a dozen killer cops) is one thing; the fact one of the guys she let off is this killer is probably the nail in the coffin.

I don't think there's a chance Amy is VP anymore after this, Biden wouldn't take that chance.

Didn't Biden already commit to it being a woman? if so lol, this puts him in a bad spot if Amy was his choice which seems very possible..wonder if Kamala is a possibility? Warren? I dunno..

Yeah dude. Just got my license updated for another 4 years. So fake. Why do you always stick up for police? You literally blew your cover being some sort of officer where you live or work for the feds. You don’t understand how dirty US cops are, the fbi and dea. And then you mention some awful eminem song like it has any similarity in this case. You can’t hide your inner stan. Choking a dude to death is ok to you? You don’t think this is going to cause riots, after police do this s--- weekly? And imagine the times officers cameras “accidentally turned off” And before when there were no cameras for cops to wear. You have no idea about police brutality in the US. I threatened an officer once. Did I have to go to
Court for it? Yes, but with me being on meds it was an easy case to beat. And all I told the fatass pig was come talk to me like that without your badge on sometime, you know where I live. He was so shook he filed extra charges lol That I beat and made him look like a complete worthless pig that he is.

You can, I used to think more police are good than bad and still loved that song. But it's a very different comparison than you not liking drugs and being okay with Em rapping about it or watching a TV show with violence and being against violence, etc. You can't just ignore the history of the genre and compare that to a fictional violent TV show.

I agree that you don't have to relate to music to enjoy it, but I don't think that's quite the same as what we're talking about. Rap began as and still is largely protest music. Even much of trap/drill, which many dismiss as having no meaning, is a reflection of the grim reality for many people (the violence and drug use/drug trade).

Before I go on, I wanna be clear I'm not directing this at you specifically Koolo: but I honestly do not understand how people here can love Dr. Dre, an artist whose career was built off political records like Straight Outta Compton and The Chronic, and still ignore police violence like this. It demonstrates a lack of comprehension of the music or, worse, a willful ignorance where you're choosing to ignore this type of plight after hearing your favorite artists describe this stuff in your favorite songs thousands of times.

You’re conflating a lot of points here. Like yes mlk was criticized initially but his tactics were quickly endorsed . How about women’s suffrage? Plowshares movement ? Anti draft movement during Vietnam war? Cesar Chavez? The gay protest in your own LA that predates stonewall? There’s a lot to parse but the point is it’s possible to enact change without setting major cities ablaze lol.

I know you’re riled up. For good reason, to an extent. But your newfound radicalism is also often ahistorical , and flies against numerous diplomatic examples. And instead of internalizing just maybe I’m right - and [---] is being sensible about you not boarding that plane - you bite our hands. Life’s not a Nintendo game wpg.

    Well

i believe all ppl even non americans knew this existed for a long time. Did we know the extent of it in 2020? No

my point is. Even if we assumed i know nada. If i was as ignorant as possible. Music is music. Its vibes. It doesnt matter

i dont know rock origins. But i can enjoy it

first of all, i like that i asked for examples from this century––because one of the key variables here is the politicization that comes from cable news, and to some extent the internet––and you hit me with susan b anthony :'(

plenty of vietnam protests were considered violent on a case basis, and unacceptably unamerican more broadly. you know this. king was assassinated. stonewall was literally a riot, as were the predecessor protests in la (there's a plaque down the hill from my apartment). cesar chavez was accused of starving hungry people. there is no "acceptable" protest that meaningfully challenges powerful interests.

I don't think she was ever, ever a front tier choice. That was mostly goofy online progressives acting like it was a big scoop. Like, of course they were considering here she's a midwestern female senator whos run a presidential race. anyone who thought she was a 'heavy favorite' *cough* @WPG are tbh showing how little they actually know lol. or just shows how much of an echo chamber online can be.

Thats the thing. Of course me (and you to an extent) are disconnected.

But it seems like grimace is trying to picture us as against protesting and in favor of cops killing people which isn't true.

I'm against violence against innocent people. Whether its a guy getting abused by police, or an innocent cop, or innocent people being hurt during riots. I can totally understand what happens in Minneapolis and I'm not against protesting; the officer needs to be put away and many times they get away w it, its disgusting. But understanding it and applauding violence against innocent people are 2 different things.

I love also west coast rap for the vibes tho!!!!
