Hiphop is not just lyrics & content. It's a music. Sorry but I won't just listen to those boring as songs just to hear a guy talkin about complex s---. I'd rather put on the Hotline Bling and have fun singing alone with it.

OP is trippin' if he thinks people are actually going to read all that.

Honest critique of Eminem: He was a great rapper when he first came out, released arguably 3 classics and then fell off and has failed to come any where close to what he used to be. He can still put out enjoyable music from time to time but most of what he releases now is simply forgettable.

That is because you are consuming a product of entertainment. There is a difference between poetry that is designed as an entertainment product for an audience with an almost non-existent attention span and poetry that is made unfiltered, designed to push boundary and redefine what is possbile through literature, language, and speech. Where are the artist who are truly remarkable, bending the constraints of convention to challenge the status quo? Where is the ingenuity in today's commercial hip-hop and music climate? It seems that true evolutionary ingenuity and opposition to status quo is counter-intuitive in the context of the agenda set forth by industry.

Hotline Bling is a product that you are consuming. It is made for you to like it. The song would not exist otherwise. Every element of the song has been crafted and designed to attract, to seduce the customer. Remember, the increase of the profit margin is the highest concern and to secure this means generating a quick and accessible product that is easily shared among the public. This is why hip-hop has been stagnant, merely generating reiterations of the same s--- year after year.
Where is artistic integrity in this process?

Music is not synonymous with entertainment. The core function of music is not to entertain. To reduce the experience that is music down to just entertainment is foolish. Step outside the lenses of the consumer and you will see that the original function of music was that is was a reflection of self. Music was the activity of the artist, the explorer, and the shaman before it was a tool of the entertainer.
