Mimi the art of doing nothing

    Feb 22, 2016
I'm in a bit of a pickle at the moment and was wondering if anybody on the board was handy with tools?

I'm in the middle of trying to hang a mirror, I have marks drawn out where the holes need to be drilled and have started on the first one. My issue is that my drill will go in about 1.5cm/.5in before it wont drill any further, I need it to be in at least 5cm/ 2in. Why is this happening? Anybody have any ideas on what I can do?

You are hitting a drywall or a plate

1- you either shouldnt drill there
2- the person who constructed your home is an idiot

That's a shame. The mirror is heavy so I dont think I'd be able to hang it without drilling in somewhere.
    Thanks for the help :emoji_kissing_heart:

You should be able to make it through a stud or dry wall no problem. If it isn't a cheap drill without sufficient torque, it might be plumbing strip or a plate to stop you from drilling through an electrical cable.

She lives in Australia and most houses are brick here inside and out.

Might be hitting a wall tie? Although I couldn't imagine it stopping a drill...

Where abouts are you hanging it up? Is it near the top of a window frame? Like next to it it? Could be hitting the beam...

Idk maybe your drills f----- a big strong man like myself could c-m around and help :emoji_wink:
