Contemplating taking a ~2 month trip starting January. I've never been in the area before, but currently looking at Phuket, Bangkok, Singapore, Bali, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh, Sri Lanka (maybe??).

Open to any suggestions, but plz say why, rather than just listing.

Australia is part of South East Asia, just so you know.

Source: every online game Aussies play has to use SEA servers

If you go to Laos (or probably cross any border really) make sure you have cash on you because they will take your passport and not give it back until you bribe them with what amounts to like $3 USD. My girlfriend went a few years ago and said that a bunch of people crossing at the same time as her refused to pay cuz they 'didn't want to support corruption' and she just gave them the money and lol'd across the border.

the food in SE asia is excellent, I was surprised at the quality and abundance of Indian curry houses there as well.

Definitely check out Saigon, Hanoi is great too

    d--- @Slyk, I'm jealous. I gotta wait til I'm out of college.

As soon as I have my Bachelor's degree and my TEFL certification, I'm moving to Southeast Asia to be an English teacher. First I'm gonna go to South Korea to get a feel for things, then after awhile I'm gonna move to Vietnam (Saigon specifically), then perhaps Thailand. I'm also considering Japan. Plus a great thing about living in the region is that airfare to surrounding countries is cheap af, so in my downtime I can do a lot of traveling.

Anyway, I have a document where I mapped out places I plan on going to. When I get off of work I'll post some cool places and things for you to check out.
