Jan 31, 2018 Like I said, I normally like Stuckmann's reviews but he was so off base that it really seemed like he was paid to big up the movie. Also, I have to watch the review video to determine whether or not I agree with the review. Also, I never said Disney ruined Star Wars. I liked The Force Awakens and Rogue One. The Last Jedi is the first Disney SW film that I didn't like.
Jan 31, 2018 Slant Magazine and ReverseShot are dope. If you're just looking at aggregate up/down averages like the Tomatometer, you're prob getting the low effort answers you deserve.
Jan 31, 2018 Oh I wasn't trying to suggest that you're one of them, just that that was my problem with every negative review I've seen - they hate things I've already seen/experienced in the Star Wars universe before this movie. Rose's sidequest was the shittiest part of the film imo and in the bigger picture isn't that big of a deal compared to past films. I mean seriously the most mature film we've gotten from them is Rogue One but even that has quips and jokes throughout it.
Feb 3, 2018 His statement is accurate. Those two sites are a very small percentage of the total spectrum of film criticism.
Feb 3, 2018 Not really. Anybody with an internet connection can be a movie critic. Youtube has its own fleet of them. Letterboxd has even more. There's a million podcasts. It's more decentralized than ever. You can find 100 people with tastes similar to yours. You aren't limited to whoever writes for the gazette like it's 1940. So that critique really only works institutionally, and it's your own fault if you can't venture beyond them.
Feb 3, 2018 :jordanok: He’s obviously talking about actual publications that get mainstream attention lol.
Feb 3, 2018 Okay, but acting like the 100 guys who put reviews on RT is the plurality of the field isn't less absurd than saying ReverseShot and SlantMagazine have platforms and voices. RogerEbert.com has an entire staff don't they? They're pretty visible themselves. I don't see how you can comfortably generalize the entire spectrum. Especially when beyond number gazing, the number of people who actually engage with criticism is prob a lot more spread around.
Feb 3, 2018 Video game industry too. While i dont agree get out was the only good thing from the past 7 years (get out was overrated imo), its still been s-----y. American critics for movies and games are shills. There is an actual reason for this, around the beginning of the 2010s sites and magazines that did reviews started the phase out the aficionados they usually had doing reviews with wannabe journalists/personalities, the few longstanding critics still stayed but the rest were replaced. Im assuming it probably had something to do with gaining more traffic idk. Just look at score averages on metacritic and how much they have changed since 2010 or so, popular critics have no backbone anymore. All the scores are super close to eachother with little outliers for a lot of things. The last jedi is something a bit different, this is pure speculation but I think there is an sjw angle on that or disney paid out for reviews, not sure could be both. Ghostbusters was another example of the last jedi phenomena that people are now noticing even though its been prominent the last 5 years. Complete s--- 2/10 movie but for some reason no critics think its sh-- and it gets an overall metacritic of a 70 something. There is something going on, not 100% this is just my speculation. I have been following critic reviews since the early 2000s and something definitely changed recently. Glad people are noticing the bs shilling. The game industry is far more ripe with this kind of s---, it is a festering pile of diarrhea.
Feb 3, 2018 Imagine young critics saying the same thing..never having seen a real movie like The Color Purple...thats part of the problem
Feb 4, 2018 Even as a diehard SW Fan the movie was really not that great tbh, especially if you take in context that everybody at Lucasfilm/Disney was praising Writer and Director Rian Johnson like hes the next Jesus or something. Imho the humor was completely off the charts, like James Gunn ( guardians of the galaxy ) wrote the script. It ruined the whole tension. The pacing was uneven and the whole finn/rose sub-plot was unnecessary af. I also hate how theyhandled Luke Skywalker, but thats just my opinion. And dont get me started on
Feb 4, 2018 yeah crazy a space wizard was able to pull themselves through a vacuum in a science fiction film. maybe killyourself ae ae bro
