Feb 1, 2015 Kanye, Jeezy & Budden for me. He's one of my favourites, but he only has one studio album. The threads for artists with at least 3.
Feb 1, 2015 Let me guess You don't like Yeezus therefore people who do are wrong? Because that's the only thing I ever hear against it is" I don't like it and I can't tell the difference between something being not my taste and sometihing being bad"
Feb 1, 2015 I agree that it was a high risk move by a rap superstar, to not only make an experimental album like this (especially after MBDTF) but actually make it work and get universally praised, and, personally, I love the album. Regarding what you said about the Beatles, they had many fans in the UK and had shows frequently during the early 60's. They were fresh, charming, and very popular. There was international interest about their performances even in 1962, but they dropped their first record in 1963! You may say right now that their first records aren't close to their work post, let's say, Beatles For Sale (but even these first attempts showed great promise and produced quite a few timeless songs), but nobody believed that they s----d. Tbf the analogy you used was really inaccurate, so yeah, maybe whyt3st wasn't hating on Ye, idk.
Feb 1, 2015 No I'm talking back when Beatles played pub shows they were hated on. Like their literal first s--- when they first got together before the fame was hated on by like the crowds and the local pub scene
Feb 1, 2015 Oh, my bad then. I believe that this reaction was based on different criteria and wasn't about their music's quality though, and even this changed drastically soon enough. Of course it took more than their music for this to happen, but after '62-'63 I think that noone hated them. You're right though, at first they were looking for middle-class people in Liverpool pubs, this couldn't go well
Feb 1, 2015 I was more thinking the Beatles were an almost instant runaway success first of all and second most of their praised work is from the latter half of their career which was immediately praised even though it was their most innovative. Also, Yeezus which you describe as a forward/progressive album, can you show me where exactly it has progressed the industry and give me some albums it has influenced majorly?(if you can give some good examples I'll retract my statement). But it's a little too early to call it innovative, and you certainly cannot compare Yeezus to Sgt. Pepper or Abbey road in terms of impact. For the record I don't like Yeezus and I think it's a major step down from MBDTF.
Feb 1, 2015 It influenced Days Before Rodeo and alot of the alternative hip hop you hear getting popular
Feb 1, 2015 ok I get that people like kanye but comparing him to john lennon?? lol I won't mention mmlp because tbh it's not a fair fight vs even whatever one thinks is kanye's best record. compared to yeezus though, relapse or more specifically the things it pioneered including but not limited to perfect technics combined with crazy stories, meaningful insight and real, complex metaphor has influenced more high profile artists' subsequent projects and styles than yeezus ever will
Feb 1, 2015 See my post about referring to the Beatles pub days. Also, you can't fairly say which has more influence when Yeezus has only been around for a year. But look how popular Death Grips and the grime sub genre have grown since then. And look at Chief Keef for specific artists who've been influenced. Other way around. Travi$ Scott influencea Yeezus. He had production credits on every song except Bound 2, which, incidentally, is the only one that didn't fit the theme. You really have Travi$ and Rick Rubin to thank for Yeezus
Feb 1, 2015 With Hip-Hop no longer being my immediate genre of choice I'm not down with the Alternatice scene so it's not fair I comment either way on this. Also, I In no way mean to suggest that popularity=product quality, but I haven't heard anything on the radio which sounds Yeezus influenced and one mixtape does not make it progressive. Until there is a strong and clear impact on popular culture I don't think its fair to call Yeezus progressive or innovative like I've heard many people say. Different does not always mean better and there is no evidence to suggest it is game changing just yet.
Feb 1, 2015 I think you're confusing innovative with influential. You can completely push the envelope but be ignored.
