Sep 4, 2020 Day 26: Kash Doll & Ant Clemons - 13th Amendment Since Detroit rappers are the topic now, I chose a rather unknown Kash Doll song for today. Featured on 27: The Most Perfect Album, which was a project by the More Perfect podcast on WNYC Studios, focusing on the 27 amendments of the United States. Kash and Ant are harmonizing on this song, basically questioning the implementation of the 13th Amendment and the leading to new forms of slavery in form of incarceration. The production is good as well and the song is also enjoyable for people that don't live in the US. For everyone wanting to check the whole project out, I would suggest listening to it through the official site: https://project.wnyc.org/themostperfectalbum/. Here you can read information to every amendment while listening to the assigned song.
Sep 7, 2020 Day 27 (I know I skipped a few days but f--- it): Sleepy Rose - Blood In The Streets ATL'S own Sleepy Rose is an artist that should be kept an eye on. He is currently signed (or at least affiliated) on 2Chainz' label T.R.U. and gained popularity through his b-----r Woo that was featured on their recent label project. I still chose a different song since many of y'all probably know Woo or will atleast check it out after reading this (seriously listen to that song and tell me you didn't get jiggy). Back in July, Sleepy dropped two mixtapes, Ethereal: Heaven and h--- Edition. While those might not be the pinnacle of recent ATL releases, there were still some standout songs on those tapes, one of them being Blood In The Streets. Sleepy pouring his heart out on this heavenly instrumental definitely deserves more recognition.
Sep 10, 2020 Day 28: Jesus Honcho - Infatuated When this dropped back in 2018, I immediately thought that this kid has potential. Sadly, his other work didn't seem to see have the same quality as Infatuated. In his recent releases he has a different voice in every song, he might be going thru puberty or some s---. Anyways I'm still keen to hear what Jesus has up his sleeve, since this song is still holding up and getting many plays by me.
Sep 11, 2020 Day 29: Shura - Just Once Sometimes when I'm sick from listening to hip hop (which is rarely but it occurs) I always turn to some nice new wave, synth pop. British singer Shura is one of my go to artists from that genre. Her soft hypnotizing voice paired with some beautiful nostalgic sounding instrumentals always makes me feel some type of way. Just Once is from 2015 but it's still holding up beautifully 5 years later. Check out her latest album forevher and you are in for some seriously good electro/synth pop.
Sep 14, 2020 Day 30: Paul Epworth - Mars & Venus (feat. Vince Staples, ISHMAEL & Elle Yaya) Paul Epworth is a grammy award winning producer from Britain. To be honest prior to last week I had no idea who he was but after listening to this song and his album Voyager which released last friday, I knew it had to be some kind of genius. A few clicks and a Wikipedia article later, it seems my speculation turned out to be true. He is the man behind Adeles Skyfall amongst other things. Mans collected them awards like me collecting yugioh cards back in the days. For his album he gathered some high quality guests, even good ol' Kool Keith makes an appearence. Definitely check it out if you're in for something unusal and who knows, for some people it might even be an AOTY contender.
Sep 16, 2020 Day 31: A$AP Nast - Designer Boi (feat. D33J) A$AP Nast finally blessed us with a new solo song. I think the last time I heard him rap was on Dogtalk which is the first collaboration between D33J and Nast back in '18. I really enjoy the song even though the 808 could have banged a little more. Might have been one of my most listened songs on Spotify when it dropped.
Sep 16, 2020 i feel like a scumbag for ignoring this thread for so long. This s--- is fire bro. I’ll come back and listen to the rest soon. Another user with goat taste
Sep 19, 2020 Day 32: Calboy - Nina At the very latest since this this years XXL Freshman Class, Calboy is in no need of an introduction anymore. Chicago seems to burst with talent and Calboy is no exception. Nina is the song that completely sold me and arguably the best one off his sophomore album Wildboy (and off his catalogue in my humble opinion). The beat is a beast, that 808 bass is something different and Calboy kills his verses (and I'm not talking lyrics, I'm talking about the musicality). Barbarian with Lil Tjay is another song that I'd consider to be one of his best but y'all might already know about that one.
Sep 27, 2020 Day 33: Majid Jordan - OG Heartthrob Another great RnB group chained up in Drake's OVO Sweatshop. Crazy to think that the release of their latest album The Space Between was already 3 years ago, which while not reinventing the wheel, is still a super smooth album. I don't know if being signed to Drake's label is a blessing or a curse, since Drake basically only cares about himself and not his labelmates (or maybe he's just too big for his label peers to be properly recognized) but I hope their star won't go out yet.
Sep 27, 2020 Great choice, that one-two punch of Gave Your Love Away into OG Heartthrob was killer on that album. They've been a bit flat with their albums, but anytime I see Jordan on the production credits it's a must click for me (re: dvsn's Keep It Going)
Sep 28, 2020 Day 34: THEY. - Motley Crue I'm on my RnB s--- right now I'm not gonna lie. THEY. is a Los Angeles based music group known for their very guitar driven RnB music mixed with grunge elements (Kurt Cobain is one of their influences). I can't even remember how I discovered them but Motley Crue was definitely the first song I've ever heard by them and it instantly got me hooked on their music. I checked out their album Nü Religion: Hyena, where the song is featured on and I absolutely loved it. So many good songs on there (Africa, Deep End, What You Want, Bad Habits, Back It Up, f--- it every song is good). Their Fireside - EP is also worth checking out and they're set to release their new album The Amanda Tapes soon, which I'm already looking forward too.
Sep 29, 2020 Day 35: Burna Boy & DJDS - Thuggin Burna Boy should be well known by now, so the focus here is more on the DJ Duo DJDS. They have done a lot of collaborations with singers and rappers the past few years and all of them are amazing. Their 2018 album Big Wave More Fire is great and was my starting point from where I discovered more of their music. The Steel And Copper EP with Burna Boy sure was a suprise but a welcome one. There is no bad song on there and choosing a song was tough for me but Thuggin might be my favorite one. Honestly check out the full EP, you won't regret it!
Sep 30, 2020 Day 36: Terror Jr - Enemies I posted about Terror Jr in my Unknown Artist thread already, so I'm gonna leave the long introduction. Might be the greatest Pop band to come out in the last couple of years and I'm being completely honest. They outdid themselves with this song but all their stuff is pretty great.
Sep 30, 2020 Oh f---, can't wait to listen to your recommendation if this is a sign of things to come
