Definitely plan on voting for him in the primary and I'll write him in the actual election, even if he doesn't win the primary

Earlier this month on ABC's This Week, host George Stephanopoulos asked Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) whether he actually believed a self-described socialist could be elected president of the United States. Sanders suggested that if more Americans were acquainted with the quality of life in countries in Scandinavia, they wouldn't be frightened by the label.

Knowing that Scandinavia is nothing short of h--- on earth, Stephanopoulos zeroed in on the absurdity of Sanders' point: "I can hear the Republican attack ad right now: 'He wants America to look more like Scandinavia.'"

"What's wrong with that?" Sanders replied.

Stephanopoulos was right to be skeptical that Sanders could get away with such a comparison. Scandinavian countries' social democratic policies of exceptionally high tax rates and heavy government involvement in the provision of services has been nothing short of catastrophic.

America should do whatever it takes to ensure it doesn't suffer the same fate. Take a look at the facts on what their policies would do to the U.S.

    1. Access to quality health care would simply plummet.
Having the government step into services like health care would create massive public health challenges. Just look at how many people in Sweden lack access to affordable health care:

    2. Health care costs would go through the roof.

Countries such as Norway believe that the government can manage some things better than the market. As you can see, this has resulted in loads of wasted money:

    3. Our education system would be a joke.
Scandinavian countries have little interest in investing in their youth:

    4. We would be overrun by violent crime.
With their gentle open-air prisons and their low ceilings for maximum sentencing, Scandinavian countries are havens for criminals:

    5. America would just wallow in poverty.
The prosperity of Scandinavian countries — measured as a combination of wealth and well-being — captures just how bad their citizens have it:

    6. Unemployment would skyrocket.
Scandinavian governments have suffocated the labor market and encouraged joblessness:

    7. Everyone would be miserable.
Between the dark winters and the knowledge that any ambition will only be rewarded with more taxes, people aren't satisfied with life in Scandinavia:

If Sanders thinks that he can win over the American people while touting these failed states as a model for the future, he can kiss the White House goodbye.

    In response to the OP.

I live in Norway, and the fact that so many americans are afraid of the way we run things baffles me.

    Pro democratic socialism
    - No guns in the streets (if you don't have a hunters license)
    - Free school elementary and high school. (I pay about 80$ per semester for one of Norways best universities, NTNU)
    - Free health care (with a small personal fee, but if that reaches over 250$ a year, you'll get a free card for the rest of the year)
    - Government pays those who can't work (or are un-employed) about 2000$ a month.
    - Very heavy focus on the global warming issue
    - Government founded care for the elders

    Con democratic socialism
    - High taxes (the more you earn, the more you pay)
    - Taxes on imported goods
    - High power in the Government (Countered by "separation of powers")

In my opinion the high taxes are okay, as we get so much for free. There is a reason that Norway (and other Scandinavian countries) usually are top 10 in the worlds best place to live rankings by the Legatum Institute.

Why are so many Americans afraid of the way we run things over here?

I know people that live in Sweden. My sister married a software developer whose family is well off - his college education was very instrumental to his life & success, and of course in Sweden college is free and so is health care. So if my taxes are higher so people can go public colleges, then I think that is one of the best investments our country can make

The irony is that you used Ireland as an example.
Where there is universal healthcare and free college tuition. :')

Your point is s--- though. Corporations make a killing here. It's the only country that will allow them to dodge taxes while shipping jobs away.

GE is a great example. Just ONE out of a few hundred possible examples. From 2008 to 2013 GE received a tax refund of 2.9 billion dollars. In 2012 they stashed 108 billions dollars in an offshore tax haven to avoid paying income taxes. If they had claimed that money as income, they would owe us taxpayers 37.8 billion dollars. But instead they received that refund of 2.9 billion. That's an effective tax rate of -9%! They do this while leading the country in outsourcing jobs to Mexico and China. Yeah. Guess who picks up the slack on that one? Us Taxpayers.

Or Walmart. They're single handedly the biggest beneficiary for social assistance programs in this country. Our Gov't allows them to pay their employees starvation wages that will still require some form (or multiple forms) of government assistance to meet ends meet. At full time. Guess who picks up the slack on that one? Us Taxpayers. Again.

There are trade deals that can worked out, while not allowing s--- like that to happen. TPP, NAFTA are s---. The average taxpayer picks up the tab our bought-for gov't allows these guys to dodge. They want to move to another country? Okay, tax the importations. Whatever. US will still be the biggest consumer market in the would, we should use that to our advantage if they want to leave.

At least now there's solid proof of it, and not just speculation.
