Am I the only one who is kinda bummed out about the fact that they aren't using any de-aging technology? I'm just so fascinated by it and think it would do this show favors. I mean Mike looks really old by now.

yeah that is much more egregious than any of the appearance changes here because at least there is a 6 year difference in bcs that can explain weight gain/loss

h--- of series and episode. Not big fan on prequels as you know where the narrative is going but the writing and direction always make this series sit on your edge seat kind of stuff. Look forward to how it all connects and concludes.

finally sat down and watched this week's

I knew there was no way Nacho could make it out of this yet I still held out hope to the last second :emoji_slight_frown:

This show's (and BB's) use of cold opens/flash-forwards + storytelling without dialogue is unmatched.

Rewatching Saul so far the only time it's bothered me was very early on in the series when they tried to portray Jimmy in his 20s or 30s and Bob Odenkirk was like 52 years old lol. But to be fair it's been a min since I've seen breaking bad so I can't say for other characters. I'm prob gonna rewatch BB after I finish Saul rewatch cuz last time I saw it was 2018 I think so I'll see how I feel then

I do wonder what they meant when they said there are "more stories to tell" in the BB universe but they're taking a break first. Like do they mean movie or spin-off? I suppose it might be more obvious once the series is over and we see what happens to "Gene."

That got me thinking about the vacuum man and Omaha:

I knew that either Nacho or Kim or both were going to end up dead or in prison somehow. So now that we know Nacho dies for certain, that leaves Kim: is she going to be tied back in to Gene in the future somehow? Maybe Kim had to be disappeared too? Does Saul choose being a cartel lawyer over going with Kim in a Walter white-ike corruption of values where he chooses power over family? Or is Kim going to die and her death is what makes him take the full plunge into being a cartel lawyer—with no family, wife, or close friends outside of business associates left? Whatever happens at the end of prequel Saul, I can't see it being happy. I could see a bittersweet ending for Gene though.

I think Kim is who Gene is going to get to help him with the “cab driver”.

I hope they do an extensive interview about this when all is said done because I'm so curious how far in advance they knew what the Gene ending was gonna be (or at least a general sense)

Does anyone know if someone is writing a retrospective book to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the BB finale next year? The Sopranos and Wire ones were fantastic so I'm hoping they do one for BB too.

There was a breaking bad marathon on a few weeks ago and I randomly was watching an episode with Saul talking about his 2nd ex wife cheating on him with his step dad. Had to google to see wtf that was about and found this

“I’ll tell you a tricky one,” Gilligan explained. “Off the top of my head, there was some casual reference Saul Goodman made way back in Breaking Bad about being married twice or three times or something like that. That one has bedeviled us for sure. It was just a goofy throwaway line in an episode of BB where Saul Goodman talked about his second wife or some such and that has bedeviled us. We’re trying to figure that one out. When did he have a wife? And who was the second wife? Who was his first wife? Blah blah blah. That was a tricky one.”

The specific line Gilligan is referencing comes from “Green Light,” the fourth episode of Breaking Bad’s third season. In that episode, Saul says to Walter White, “I caught my second wife screwing my stepdad. OK? It’s a cruel world, Walt. Grow up,” which, if we take him at face value, establishes that Saul has been married at least twice. Interestingly, the first wife was actually referenced in the Better Call Saul episode “Chicago Sunroof,” but there has yet to be any mention of a second wife, nor any reference to Jimmy McGill having a stepdad.

Some have speculated that Jimmy’s on-again, off-again love interest Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn) is the second wife or that Saul Goodman was just exaggerating or outright lying to Walt in order to manipulate him. Whatever the case, the Better Call Saul’s writing woes from this seemingly throwaway line only further highlight how reconfirm the Gilligan’s previous comments regarding how difficult it is to do a prequel:

“Prequels are really d---ed hard to write. I thought they were going to be easy. I thought — Peter Gould and I — ah h---, it’s a prequel, we know where it all winds up, this will be easy. There’s so much we don’t have to make up. And we were deluding ourselves. Prequels are actually harder because the sky is not the limit. You can’t do anything and everything with the storytelling because there’s so much set in stone later.”

The fact that they would care so much about something like this is what makes them the best. Most shows would ignore it and honestly Saul just bullshitting is a perfectly fine explanation. It could have easily been explained if they had known about it at the start of BCS though so it makes me think they were made aware of it pretty far in

Exactly. Saul says s--- like that all the time kinda like the scumbag lawyer version of dad jokes, totally in character. And 100% the little details really are what make this universe so vibrant and intriguing to the point that I actively want another spin-off show. For any other show like the wire or sopranos I'd say h--- no to a spin-off at this point but they've proven themselves tenfold. Like @JFK said we're on Breaking Bad season 11 and no tv shows keep this quality for this amount of time.
