In a new interview with Gigwise, Big Sean talked about Eminem’s verse on “No Favors,” off his recently released album I Decided.
Interviewer: The response to Eminem’s verse on ‘No Favours’ has been very hot and cold. It’s like Marmite, you either love it or hate it. Why do you think that is?
Big Sean: I don’t know, I thought the verse was super fire. Everybody has an opinion. I didn’t do it to try and please peoples I did it because I thought it was hard and because I liked it. Plus I think he said some stuff that was really necessary to say and things that I didn’t necessarily get across on the song that I felt added to it. See that’s my point of doing features, I only recruit for features when I feel like they’re really going to add to the song, or they’re going to do something that I’m not. That’s exactly what Eminem did. I mean Eminem is Eminem, man. I feel like he brought a crazy verse to that song. I feel honored.
Interviewer: Did you have second thoughts about featuring the verse as it doesn’t really relate to what you’re talking about on the rest of the record?
Big Sean: h--- no I didn’t have no second thoughts, I thought it was super tight. I thought it was hard man and I think it fit the song pretty good. I thought it was a moment within the song where you listen in, grab yourself some popcorn and you’re just like, “What? He said what? He said this?”

Major props to this interviewer for having the balls to ask these questions. f--- Big Sean for not owning up and saying the verse is trash. -

The verse was pretty good lol... people hating on it would've hated on it even if it was flawless. Em is obviously not in his prime anymore but he's still a h--- of a lot better than most of the s--- coming out todayBrenoB, Macca, froboy6942 and 2 others like this. -

When Em outdid Jay on Renegade, that was probably when I was the biggest Em fan. You grow up and you adapt to different and more mature life experiences so you expect to listen to music which complements it like a soundtrack/score. Em's music in general has never depicted cinematically scenic routes.
I'm not missing him at all. Recovery was coo. He should have retired then. And maybe left the last track off the album. Because Proof deserves a better tribute than that.
But anyway, when you have producers as good as Black Milk and rappers as good as Elzhi still living in and representing in your city, it's hard to care about what Em contributes to Hip-Hop anymore. Because he was never good at running a label. Worst at that ever. Maybe if he'd have gotten rid of Paul Rosenberg around 2002, I'd still end up liking the guy. He's just a manufactured robo-lyricist.asvdawg, Enigma, Pinocchio and 1 other person like this.
