Mar 20, 2017 Except it didn't lol. Tracks like 305 and Worst Behavior were unfortunate misses that should have been replaced with 5am in Toronto and Girls Love Beyoncé. All-in-all though; writing wise, it's his best album. Tuscan Leather, From Time, The Language, Pound Cake, Too Much, etc. His confidence that bleeds throughout the album (and is different from any project he put out before then when he banked on being the insecure/heart broken artist) is what makes the album so great. Drake honestly taps into his inner-jay with this album. It's an artist finally coming to the realization: I'm the biggest rapper in the world and I'm not going to get pushed around anymore.
Mar 20, 2017 Yeah, i think it's a failed attempt at him trying to create a trap/street anthem. The last verse is great but the beat is all over the place/over produced. Drake just sounds out of his element on it until the last verse. He's gotten a lot more better at creating music like this since then though. I'm not sure I would call it iconic. "Started From the Bottom" is iconic and though I have issues with it and I think the writing on it is lazy, I'd leave it on there for that reason.
Mar 20, 2017 So I was wrong. 7 good songs on Nothing Was The Same. Nothing classic besides Tuscan Leather. And the other 6 good-to-great songs are The Language, From Time, Furthest Thing, Come Thru, Wu-Tang Forever, and Too Much.
Mar 20, 2017 Another thing that I feel like makes NWTS special is that it's the first album where drake was trying to earn respect from his peers and the fans. When he came out with SFG, TML & TC that was him just going through the motions, making it big, not caring if people labeled him soft or if rappers like Pusha T tried to go at him. Something changed after TC where he felt like he had to prove himself and he hasn't let up on that mindset since.
Mar 20, 2017 I forgot I really like Connect. That's it though. Make that 8 then. That means it's closer to Take Care than I wanted to previously admit. It's not as close as Eminem Show is to Marshall Mathers LP for example. But close enough. And now I'm not so annoyed when I consider all of these things.
Mar 20, 2017 idk man, production is amazing. confidence literally seeping all over the track, iconic hook and an incredible closer verse you're really just nitpicking but i can only assume you don't like trap music in general lol
Mar 20, 2017 Quite the contrary, I do like trap music lol. I just think WB is a bad exemplar of trap music.
Mar 20, 2017 no doubt, but the whole point of this thread is to make bold statements and cementing Ls people can use on us a year from now when the dust settles.
Mar 23, 2017 This might be my favorite Drake project, there's something about this one thats resonating with me.
