May 9, 2017 I didn't say it was realistic, I said it was brutal, very graphic action scenes; so like it wasn't watered down in its brutality therefore mentioning it in a discussion about how this movie here is PG13 doesn't make sense cause Hacksaw Ridge's graphic nature is why it had an R rating.
May 9, 2017 It takes more than gore to paint a brutal picture of war. Wise cracks in the heat of battle and unrealistic (albeit "cool") action scene kinda makes it comical more than burtal imo
May 9, 2017 I agree with this. It gets to the point in a Hacksaw Ridge/Windtalkers type film where all the on-screen violence is numbing more than anything else. The relatively little violence in Apocalypse Now or Come and See is the horror of war done right. Herds of people being gathered into a barn to be burned alive is far more disturbing than endless explosions, gunfire, and limbs flying everywhere.
May 9, 2017 Definitely. However you want to look at it though, whether its explicit violence or the themes of war, im not sure the brutality can be fully captured with a PG13 classification. Time will tell though and hopefully I'll be eating my words. There's a fantastic film called Life is Beautiful which I think is only PG-13. But the entire point of that film was the father protecting his son from the horrors of war. I'll definitely watch Dunkirk but I really don't know what to expect now.
May 16, 2017 DKR wasn't trash it was a better film than TDK it just didn't have as good a villian tbh. Memento is his best though
May 16, 2017 I prefer TDKR to TDK as well but objectively TDK is the better film. While i can enjoy it I still think TDKR is the most disappointing film of all-time. It was set up and had the potential to be the greatest super hero film of all-time but there's a lot that they f----- up on. That trailer 3 though.... GOAT trailer.
Jul 18, 2017 Believe the hype. Dunkirk is incredible, there is nothing like it. This is one of the best war films in years. If you're going in expecting Saving Private Ryan, then you aren't familiar with Nolan's craft. The three intersecting stories work perfectly. This may be Nolan's masterpiece. This is the most structurally innovative film Christopher Nolan has made, and the experiments of Memento, Inception, and Interstellar were leading up to this film. The score is also fantastic, not that it comes as a surprise given Hans Zimmer scored the film. It relies very little on dialogue and the use of a ticking clock to build suspense is very effective. Don't let the PG-13 rating deter you from watching this. I cannot state enough how good this movie is. It deserves to be seen in the cinema (70MM IMAX if possible). This isn't a traditional war film in the sense that it focuses on the bloody brutality of war, plenty of other movies have done that very well. This is a war movie that focuses on suspense and survival.
Jul 18, 2017 Hype is growing but it's impossible to not think that Nolan is somehow going to f--- this up
Jul 18, 2017 any aussies in the film? to my knowledge RAF and a few Navy men were involved. but Australians are never depicted properly in war films "Australian troops had, at Milne Bay, inflicted on the Japanese their first undoubted defeat on land. Some of us may forget that, of all the allies, it was the Australians who first broke the invincibility of the Japanese army." — Field Marshal Sir William Slim.
Aug 7, 2017 I think it's the loudest movie I've ever seen but also the most intense movie. I recommend for sure.
