Both kendrick and j cole have said eminem was a huge influence, vic mensa, wifisfuneral, earl swearshirt, tyler the creator. There are a lot of dope rappers that are influenced by em. Foh.

First of all, lol @ wifisfuneral.

Second of all, J Cole was also inspired by dudes like Canibus when he was 17 and doing internet battle raps. Of course, there's very little of that to be seen in the vast majority of his most popular material. Kendrick's first tape was over Lil Wayne beats. If you asked to list 5 guys that inspire the vast majority of Kendrick's most popular material, Eminem does not make that list.

Finally, Earl and Tyler made a bunch of s-----y music for 14 year olds like Eminem did. The only stuff I like by that sheds that influence almost entirely. They're a couple of 20 somethings who've grown past the s--- Em is still doing at 45.

Lol, an album that a million people have heard will always effect culture more than one 50,000 people have heard. h---, the artists who don't sell that end up being recognized as influential only do so because some artist they inspired became commercial successes.

albums like mbdtf can sell very low and have huge culture impact just by influencing the many albums to follow..and you can sell s--- tons of albums based on popular first single and have zero effect on culture...obviously this is almost impossible to do now but could happen back in the day

Who did MBDTF influence? Much better case to make for 808s I suppose though Kanye was directly pulling from artists he'd worked with like Cudi and T-Pain. Yeezus very much pulled from a subgenre that already existed. He's more like a David Bowie figure who can take trends that already exist and make them his own. Like, he wasn't the first guy to chop up soul samples, but he put his spin on it and you can tell the difference between a RZA beat and a Kanye beat.

He would for Kendrick. He's said so himself. Does that not speak volumes to you? I can see the influence pretty clearly in the storytelling/introspection/honesty in Kendrick's music.

Southern rapper using melodies for pop hits in the early aughts > syllable heavy edgelord

Of course, there's still plenty of value in Em's music. He made vulgarity in rap music more acceptable on a wider scale. He sparked lots of debate over censoring music in general. He delivered rap to a whiter audience than anybody since the Beastie Boys had. He sold the most albums of any other rapper in the aughts by a huge amount. I think like The Beatles and Mariah Carrey are the only comparable ones for that timeframe. The fact those were rap albums is crucial to the way hip-hop has become a dominant pop force.

Yes, Eminem was the only/first rapper to tell stories, introspect, and be honest. These are all true claims.
