i am a huge nelly fan

but mmlp impact was much bigger than country grammar

i am not sure how old @WPG is...but only someone who was at least 12 years old during that time is allowed to debate this

DMX wasn't the first to talk about killing and robbing but he definitely influenced GRODT. No idea is truly original. The manner in which Eminem exhibited these traits was fresh though.

Chino XL and Cage would disagree...
Also, idk if DMX is the first rapper I'd credit for GRODT. Pretty standard NYC stuff. They were mostly contemporaries drawing from the same stuff. DMX famously didn't listen to much rap though (idk where I read that).

again, you are completely removing the popularized out of the equation .. it doesnt matter who started it...its who popularized it

They're about different things, but Brenda's Got Baby is the original "writing a letter to somebody" song. Sound like a familiar concept? (Stan)

Was Murder Murder the first home invasion song? Nope

I mean kendrick and cole have said themselves that early eminem is one of their biggest influences but whatever, stay in denial.

It's the exact same narrative device he lifted from an artist he frequently referenced and even posthumously produced an album for.

I mean, you're arguing Em's storytelling was radically different from his predecessors yet the narrative device from his most famous one was lifted. Calling Em's storytelling innovative pretty much ignores the black guys who were doing it for 20 year prior.

Of course, Stan is a great song, but that's not what your claim was.
