Yeah... I hated Mencia... a true hack that won the "Chappelle quit his show" lottery and I'm glad Rogan did what he did, which was as brave as a comic could be at the time... which looks like common sense now.

But Joe Rogan wasn't ever funny... then he became Oprah for uninteresting white dudes... who's minds were blown that a karate man smoked weed.

The last time Joe Rogan made me laugh was when he was on Newsradio.

I miss going to comedy shows. Andrew Schulz is pretty funny. This is a great set of him not doing a standard set and just talking about a lady who passed out during the show, then ripping a heckler

Dave Attel eulogized Patrice the best because it was honest and funny and lighting fast.

Dave Attell, that dude was hilarious. He dropped off the face of the Earth after the late 2000s though. I miss his show, no complete DVD release is not ballin and some serious bs

kinda hits different during a pandemic too tbh

Captain Miserable was a master class... it seems like they destroyed all copies of that special for some reason.

My girlfriend of the time ended up Insomniac and I was jealous and I was jealous.

yeah. do you guys follow Seth Simons at all? i dont agree with all of his takes, but i do feel like there's a 'civil war' in standup rn between the guys cosplaying like its the 80s still being raunchy (which admittedly i enjoy) and more progressive hipster sensibilities (where, sometimes, 'jokes' dont matter gadsby or w/e)

then you got the rififi alt comedy guys who came up in the 2000s nick kroll mulaney, i guess i like their style the most, kind of splits the difference. does this sound right to you @Worm i feel like ur on the periphery here

I've never been able to make it thru a whole episode of Joe Rogan. Not even the Kanye one. Moron/terrible interviewer.

Yeah.... I know Seth Simons because of how he cost Shane Gillis SNL... and I guess he does that kind of stuff all the time.

It's a weird time in comedy. Shane lost SNL for basically doing a bit that made Alex Borenstein a beloved household name when she was doing Ms. Swan on MadTV..

I think the whole Trump thing put comedy in a bad place... it's like David Cross and Gavin Mcinnes were best friends at one time... and they both used the same kind of shock humor. Dave was known to be a liberal, so know one thought he was being serious... then Gavin made a fascist street g--- that tried to murder Nancy Pelosi and hang the Vice President... so, that made his nazi jokes less funny in retrospect.

It's hard to say things for shock value anymore... even though I can tell Shane Gillis isn't really racist.

Our favorite Senator, Al Franken got comedy shamed out of the f---ing Senate. That was a tragedy.

I feel like comedy shaming was birthed out of the metoo movement which was good when they took down Harvey Weinstein, for being a literal monster... but then they took out the best stand-up in the last 10 years, Louis CK, for touching himself... after asking permission to touch himself. Which doesn't hardly seem wrong... just not very cool or sexy. Then Aziz got me too'd... for not being good at sex or something. It's weird someone like Andy d-ck never gets metoo'd when... you know.

    It just sucks now.

You really thought Shane wasn't clean enough for SNL?

He's the most palatable out of the whole GasDigital universe... I guess maybe Soder is tame enough... but none of those other guys.

I never listened to Matt and Shane's secret podcast and I only heard the Chinatown bit that blew up... which seemed like standard comedy up into a few years ago.

I still personally enjoy much more risque stuff than that... but the entertainers I patronize don't kid themselves about working for NBC.

yeah i agree. its not great but they have carved a decent niche post trump, and for the pandemic restrictions. i think having those barriers in place actually enhances the comedy.

right again agreed, its a little unfortunate. comedians shouldnt have one offs, or incomplete riffs or something tossed back in their face. like punishing a musician for playing a bad note. the alternative is this new normal where the cast is made up of safe, corporate friendly rich theater kids..... as opposed to naturally funny standups who ruggedly work the road and know how to wield edgy comedy.

I half watched Kenan's pilot thing, while Inwas trilling politicians (it came on after SNL here in Alaska, which was unusual) is that going to get picked up? They must have shot more episodes? Is it a regular show I didn't know about?

yeah man. I mean obviously I've been out of it for quite a while and I don't know how amateurs do it this day between cancel culture and people saying unfunny jokes just trying to forcefully provoke shock and not understanding when they get pushback. It's a very weird time for stand-up, but I love uncomfortable comedy and always will when it's done right. Comedy shouldn't be a safe space.

Also on Louis CK @reservoirGod he definitely is a scumbag and I say that as someone who loves his standup
That's some weird s---. I still would check out his new material but he definitely crossed the line. Now the Aziz s--- was ridiculous. He should have NEVER apologized for that.
