Apr 16, 2015 Sylvester Stallone has given "Rocky" fans the first look at upcoming spin-off “Creed,” starring Michael B. Jordan. The photo shows Stallone in character as Rocky Balboa training the grandson of his fellow boxing alumnus, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), who was permanently knocked out by Russian boxer Ivan Drago during an exhibition match in “Rocky IV.” “Creed,” which is currently shooting in Philadelphia, is being directed by Ryan Coogler, who caught Hollywood’s eye in 2013 when he wrote and directed “Fruitvale Station.” Jordan played the lead role in the film, which was based on the real-life story of Oscar Grant, who was fatally shot by a BART police officer in Oakland, California, in 2009. “Creed,” co-starring Phylicia Rashad (“The Cosby Show”) as the young boxer’s grandmother, is set to hit theaters on Nov. 25.
Apr 16, 2015 I saw "Creed" and thought it was gonna be like an Apollo Creed origin story, but this is much better!
Apr 17, 2015 Aside from the insane decision to have him as the Human Torch in the next Fantastic Four movie, Michael B. Jordan is a great actor. I really liked his performances in Fruitvale Station, Chronicle and The Wire.
Apr 22, 2015 Hopefully this doesn't turn out like Rocky V. I'll definitely see it though. Rocky VI was great. And this will be almost ten years after that film.
Jul 1, 2015 I've been wanting to ge into the old rocky movies for awhile now. I'm sure I've watched almost all of them at some point in my life and this looks like it could be a nice film
Jul 1, 2015 Looks great tbh. And it's Apollo's son not his grandson. They mention his "Daddy dying in the ring" And also how Rocky "fought his dad twice, and a third time behind closed doors" referencing the end of Rocky 3 when they punch eachother at the end and it becomes a mural. Nice nods to the old films. He also says he "never knew" his dad. Rocky 4 took place in 1985, 30 years ago. Apollo's death probably occurred shortly after his sons birth. I'm hoping Stallone's role is bigger than the previews suggest. I'll be seeing this for sure, it's basically Rocky 7.
Jul 1, 2015 Notice his mannerisms (moving the mouth piece, punching style, etc) in the opening scene are similar to Apollo's.
Jul 1, 2015 Hard to believe there will now be a Rocky film in five different decades. Two in the 70s, two in the 80s, one in the 90s, one in the 2000s, and one in the 10s. That's gotta be some kind of record for a movie franchise.
Jul 1, 2015 I don't think you have to worry about Sly's involvement, pretty sure he's the second male lead.
