it varies coin to coin and the spectrum of places to buy is getting wider and more complex (you'd think it'd be the opposite).. the top 3 exchanges are Binance, Coinbase, & Robinhood. usually, binance is easiest to get listed on so the coins will find their way there first. coinbase & robinhood have gotten quicker, but they go through a bit more of a vetting process. FYI: with robinhood, you don't actually "own" the coins (you can't transfer your holdings from rh to coinbase, for example, but you could go from binance to coinbase), but you are trading on the price of it still.

if you really want to go down a rabbit hole, then you could start looking at "DEXs" (Decentralized Exchanges). The largest ones here are Pancakeswap & Uniswap. The concept of these is still pretty fresh, but the short of it is that you can "swap" out one token for another. ex: if you have Ethereum that you purchased on coinbase, then you can send it to a wallet (Metamask or Trust are the 2 most spoken about) and connect that wallet to one of the DEXs; that ETH can then be swapped for a shitload of various coins...new coins are almost certainly being listed here first these days -- far quicker than even binance. The knowledge level of entry, however, is higher...I just got into using pancake swap with Metamask wallet this past week and i had to go down a number of rabbitholes and youtube how-tos.

Long, indecisive answer, but hopefully helpful. Holla.

Just reset my Binance account. It's been a few years since I've followed Crypto properly. Drip fed a bit of disposable income into Bitcoin over the years but don't have any more than $1000 worth.

I'll stick with Coinbase and Binance as I'm at least somewhat familiar with them.

I've seen a load of new coins mentioned in this thread but they have mostly all spiked and now seem to be dropping. Question is how do you learn about the new ones before they spike? I'm keen to test the water to see if I can get in early on some new ones.

Also, what tends to be your minimum trading amount? I found in the past that trading fees were so high that unless you were trading $1000+ at a time the % eat up any of the gains that could have been made.

1- I think to investigate it properly you’d need to be on Reddit, telegram/discord groups, crypto boards, etc.. there’s obvious risk/reward that come with trying to be first. 9 times out of 10, you’re going to lose $ on it. There’s so many scam “rugpull” projects popping up right now that you also might just have your $ vanish overnight. By the time they reach coinbase and binance though, they’re usually solidified projects. You could play a semi-passive approach and monitor when things are starting to run and just hop on the train and hope that you’re not late to the party. Or you could do some technical analysis of the charts (or just go to TradingView.com to read through others’ TA). Or you could dive into the projects and read their whitepapers, check the roadmap, investigate their team, or even use the product yourself (ex: Brave browser is ran on BAT coin). It all depends on how much work you’re willing to put in.

For the meme crypto’s I recently purchased, it’s stupid, but I just started skimming through meme coin names and chose some out of a hat to toss some change at. Banano is the one that i tossed a decent amount at because I'm involved in their discord and have started to follow the project a bit.

2- minimum trading $ is subjective to your pockets and the risk of the coin itself. Relative. For personal reference, I only put $50-$75 into each of the meme coins and plan to let them ride to oblivion or until they become the next doge sensation. I consider that type of “investing” to be the equivalent of hitting the tables in Vegas. I only put down what I won’t go to sleep nervous about losing.

Investing in something like Bitcoin, I’d be more comfortable going in with more $, but again, that's up to you as an investor. Personally, my overall portfolio is ~20% crypto and the rest in mutual funds, individual stocks, 401k, & cash.

one other thing @pHiLLip fARkLe that i didn't mention:

    https://coinmarketcap.com/
    and
    https://www.coingecko.com/en

are your friends. search for a currency (or use their trending stats to find one) and scroll down to navigate to the "Markets" tab. the listing there will show you which exchanges and/or swaps you can purchase the coin at.

I made a lot of money in 2021 in crypto.

I'm calling it now... 2022 is going to be the 2008 of Crypto.

    Tether's upcoming downfall.

People realizing NFT's are literally nothing.

Environmental concerns and activism against the blockchain.

    El Salvador.

Cryptobro culture and meme currency hatred...

It's going to be a giant rug pull.

I'm going to start playing the margins and short bitcoin and ethereum.

    FUD.

I keep my financial decisions private for the most part... but in this thread I said to buy ethereum when it was $225 and I let it be known I decided to short crypto when ethereum was at $3,800.

Oh no, what would crypto traders do without you? No but all markets are suffering because of the worthless administration you voted for. Call the bottom and then come back and brag.

However, most people know crypto for now runs on cycles and Bear markets is the best time to invest. Idk if we're there yet though as Meta coins are just getting started.

Uhhh... crypto grew over 3x in cap under Biden's first year, and the stock market is up over 10% in his first year.

BTC halving drove crypto market along with stimulus and unemployment handouts for stocks. What action did Biden take that gives him any credit at all?

Infrastructure.Bill, expanded child tax credit, getting 200 million Americans vaccinated, renewed ties with allies, ect.

I said why crypto was going to crash and burn on New Years Day... none of it has to do with Biden.
