Nah I've been having some good convos with him in DMs and this is sort of an extension of that—I'm glad we're able to have reasoned discussions on stuff like this.

Hip-hop is tied into politics and pretty much it was like that since the 80s, but why discuss politics in a thread about song that has nothing to do with politics in the first place.

The thing imo isn't even that politics are discussed. But the fact that grim just posted a new post malone song and got blasted for it because malone has different views. He just posted a f---ing song lol

I understand wanting to escape that completely sometime, but honestly the only way I've found I can do that is to log off the internet/social media for a couple days lol.

Trump was never the problem. To clarify: he was a (huge) problem, a disgrace, and terrible person/president, but he's a symptom of a disease that's infected our country since its inception. All of this stuff was a problem before he was in office (he made it much worse), and although it's very helpful to not have him in office anymore it doesn't go away just because Trump is gone. If we want to work to solve these problems then now more than ever we can't bury our head in the sand.

    Calm down Grimace.

Post Malone was never respected in hip hop. He is a pop artist.

He has never had an Urban Radio hit single not even Rockstar. He is more similar to Justin Bieber than Drake

Yes I could of came here to discuss the song. The Culture vulture narrative just kind of overshadowed it.. I did listen to the song though. Its not horrible.. Sounds like whitey music to me though lol which makes this whole situation even more awkward.

But I did suggest we make a Post Malone section.. Targeting his fanbase would be kind of smart.. But we wont do that because god forbid they might be Trump supporters or support culture robbing or whatever opinion you guys have about it.

Post Malone literally blew up with a rap song, White Iverson - then pivoted away from hip hop while disavowing it. That's frankly disgusting - and should be pointed out whether or not he was "respected in hip hop" or not.

Look I understand that people from other countries are exposed to US politics more than they'd like to be, but this is a message board based in the USA about a genre that came up out of speaking on US politics. It's going to come up a lot.

And again: be the change you wish to see. Now instead of talking about the music like people wish we've been arguing about this for twice as long as we would have if people had just let that convo die and talk about the actual song. When I don't wanna talk about something on here anymore I just stop talking about it. If you always have to have the last word in then the conversation is never gonna end.

Nah everything aside there's no Post Malone section because there's no demand for it. He's not someone with a cult/obsessive messageboard-type fanbase like Eminem/Thug/Kanye. He's normie music that appeals to people who like pop more than people who would post on a rap messageboard—which is fine, but the only place I've seen people stan post malone is on pop star twitter and even if we could get them to come here I wouldn't want those psychos anywhere near this place.

Yeah there's a lot to criticize about Drake but the one thing I've always respected about him is that he uses his star power to give a platform to up and coming rappers. You can tell he really loves the genre.

You know, Drake gave that quote from his dad, "Mike never rapped like Pac, Pac never rapped like Mike", but he definitely modeled his career after Jay more than anything. Between an endless run of albums, trying to be a tastemaker in hip hop, and even the diss tracks and feuds that he callously has calculated. If only he was as talented as Jay lol.

Ah well I'm out of touch with the new school so I wouldn't know. Just heard he was the hottest mc out right now. Didnt know about the white devil stuff either.

Who's really top dog right now then? I always just see new rappers pop up on this forum or Eminem stuff. Would be great to bring in a fresh fan base is really what I was going for.
