Me neither honestly. It used to be easy to distinguish the two but now artists charge for mixtapes which defeats the purpose of a mixtape...I guess you could say mixtapes barely exist these days

I'm old school. f---ing streaming music. Kendrick's Untitled Unmastered is not an album imo it's an EP, but it's hard to come up with a difference.

Album - collection of songs that come on a CD and you pay $14.99 for it
Mixtape - free music that the artist puts out for the fans, usually s--- that didn't make the album or just some quick songs the artist(s) put together etc.
EP - half album, or extremely short album. Untitled Unmastered was what, 6 songs? G-Unit's The Beauty of Independence and The Beast of G-Unit were both 6 song EP's

Drake called IYARTITL a "mixtape" yet it was a full length album being charged as such. In terms of the old days that is not a "mixtape" but an album. Nowadays they can call it a mixtape and still make people pay for it like it's a studio album. s----s gay

I generally agree with this but then there is the whole issue of Chance and Drake.

Drake called If You're Reading This a mixtape, but it was commercially available. Meanwhile, Coloring Book won Best Rap Album but it is free online.

I think that if it is commercially available it should be considered an album. Otherwise, it's really up to the artist or the label how the project is defined.

As for an EP, an Extended Play on record was 78 RPM (as opposed to 33) and since it spun faster it could fit fewer songs. Once we moved into the digital age, the term became outdated but is still used by artists to define shorter projects. Weezer albums are like 20 minutes long while some other artists will put out what they consider EPs with a longer duration.

I think an EP would generally be considered anything between 3 - 7 average-length tracks. 1 - 2 is a single. More than 7 is an album.

Regarding Drake, Wikipedia has IYRTITL listed as a Commercial Mixtape, not album. Idk smh
