Sep 21, 2016 Protests turned violent on Tuesday night as people demonstrated against yet another police shooting of a black man in America. According to police, officers were looking for a suspect with an outstanding warrant near the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, the Washington Post reported. They saw Keith Lamont Scott — a 43-year-old black man who wasn’t the suspect — get out of his car with what they said was a handgun, before he got back into the vehicle. Officers approached. Scott allegedly emerged again with a firearm, posing what police called "an imminent deadly threat." A black officer with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Brentley Vinson, then shot Scott, killing him. Police said they gave Scott multiple warnings to drop the gun before shooting him, the Associated Press reported. In a Facebook Live video, a woman saying she was Scott’s daughter claimed that Scott was simply sitting in his car, reading a book and waiting for a school bus to drop off his son, when officers shot him. She also claimed that Scott was unarmed, and that he was disabled. Police say they recovered the gun that Scott allegedly brandished from the scene. The Facebook Live video quickly spread on social media, drawing crowds to the area who chanted "black lives matter" and "no justice, no peace." Things got violent later in the night, as protesters smashed police cars and threw rocks and other objects at cops. Police responded with tear gas, according to the Charlotte Observer. Several people, including 16 police officers, were injured, NBC News reported. Vinson, the officer who shot Scott, is on administrative leave as the shooting is investigated. Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Roberts said the city will launch "a full investigation" and reach out "to community leaders to work together." source
Sep 21, 2016 White people reading these stories be like Guy shot was black Cop who shot him was black
Sep 21, 2016 If it comes out that he really had a gun like they're saying now, and it wasn't a book like the daughter said, then she should be arrested for inciting a riot
Sep 21, 2016 Well this is neat: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nat...lamont-scott-body-cam-video-article-1.2800655 "North Carolina passed a law just two months ago that could prevent the body cam footage of Keith Lamont Scott’s death from emerging soon — if ever. Gov. Pat McCrory signed a law July 11 that denies the public access to police body cam and dashcam footage without a judge’s orders. The law says police departments choose whether to release footage from any case. A person who is in a police video can request the footage, but if the request is denied, the person must take the fight to court."
Sep 21, 2016 what the f--- is the point of having the cameras? North Carolina is such a backwards state
Sep 21, 2016 This kind of law sounds like if the officer is in the right it will be immediately released when they can, but if he's in the wrong then you won't see it
