His dribbling is horribly overated and inefficient, his passing is below the standard for a defender (h---, there are goalkeepers that can pass better), and his ball retention is horrible and he often dives when he loses the ball. For all that physical superiority you people claim he's pretty light. Not to mention how slow's he's gotten. Finishing is ALL he has left. So how am i wrong?

Jan 17, 2017 First off you can use that little arrow at the bottom of the post to quote. How ironic that you end up sounding like a 14 year old. No, this is the one point that has never been contested between messi and ronaldo, Messi is overwhelmingly superior to ronaldo in passing ability. Passing of all types (messi does all types of passes, so has more variety) , messi outdoes him in speed of release, timing, weight and vision (Coincidentally, so does arda turan). If we wan't to involve flair, or 'can't do's', then you are fighting a pretty hopeless battle. Ronaldo has never even attempted a cross field volley or overhead kick assist, both of which messi has done to inch accurate perfection on more than one occasion. Ironically, messi is also better at headed passes........ Not sure why i'm even debating this, It's barcelona, the minimum standard for any position is a passing standard well above ronaldo's current level. So even our goalkeepers lol.

Jan 17, 2017 Messi has like 30 less career goals without about 150 less games. He has 33 MORE assists with about 150 less games. Even by the same numbers ronaldo loves to obsess about, there's a 91 goal record he won't ever dream about breaking. Messi isn't 'preferred', by either watching both or comparing the stats he's clearly better. Ronaldo might have been top 3 in his prime, but that's me comparing him only to other forwards , in which his numbers stand up. If we started looking at level of performance+consistency with other positions, then bar his 08 season he's never even been in the top 2 . Ever notice how most of ronaldo's trophies have been won before his prime, while he wasn't in spain?
Jan 17, 2017 I like and prefer Messi's style of play. Messi is no doubt the greatest (currently) at dribbling past players. His passing and assists are incredible. His freekicks has been more consistent lately, unlike CR7 who just doesn't seem to be as good as he was when it comes to freekicks. Skills wise, Messi is probably the best right now. Better than any other. However CR7 is an all round athlete/player. He's the complete football player regardless. He has that strong character, charisma and leadership skills off and on the pitch that helped him lead his national team to win Euro back in the summer. Ronaldo knows to silence critics. As a Skilled player, Messi. As a goal scorer, Ronaldo. This is coming from a true real Madrid supporter, pre Ronaldo. Been a RM supporter since 2004 basically when I started getting into football. Again as I said, I prefer Messi's style of play over CR7. CR7 is deadly tho. So you tell me, what makes a great football player. His skills or his ability to lead his team to victory and win trophies or any other? Ronaldo is the King tho. He earned that himself. He's that guy who's first to arrive and the last to leave. He's definitely the most hard working player I've ever seen. He works hard on himself on and off the pitch. Even when he's home, he trains insane. That's why he's Great and highly respected. He's an international star. More popular than Messi all around the glove. He puts a lot of effort into himself more than any other player. He truly made himself. He Conquered EPL, La Liga & European football multiple times. He's done it all.

Jan 19, 2017 I agree with everything else but this. He's a complete goalscorer, not a complete player, or even complete attacker, but a complete goalscorer, maybe the most complete in history. See, i can respect this. You are reasoning without bullshitting me. I full well know what having ronaldo in your squad does for your team, i'm just annoyed at people who won't admit that in terms of technical ability, Ronaldo has fallen waaaaaay off, and his performances have been generally poor (well, by the world class standard anyways). He deserved balon dor, but not world player award, as he wasn't the best player on earth
Jan 19, 2017 Atletico getting costa would be bad for Madrid/Barca, but good for the league. A target man is frankly the only thing either club have over them. Atleti's style of play is pretty close to chelsea.
