Jan 25, 2015 After the boom that the sslp was, did this song come a little bit early? I mean, after a year of sslp he showed the world a story of a die hard fan that was obsessed with him to the point of killing his gf and himself. I could understand this if he put that song on TES or after the mmlp with him recognized as one of the greatest, but just after the sslp when he wasn't that famous ? ps: I really like this song but this came to my mind while I was listening to it.
Jan 25, 2015 i always thought so as well...not premature as much as marshall knew how big he would get..showed confidence tbh
Jan 25, 2015 I was in high school at the time and believe me he was that famous at the time. People were dying their hair blonde all over the place trying to look like him. I know it's hard to believe he was that famous that early but it wasn't just cuz of SSLP, it was also from his contributions to Chronic 2001 (including Forgot About Dre), and a ton of underground songs and features that he released in 1999-00 (with D12, Bad Meets Evil, and solo). That's why he was able to sell 1.7 million copies in his first week with MMLP (which was long before the Stan single). But I'll admit his peak of fame, popularity, success, and skill was in Fall 2002 when 8 Mile released. He shut down Times Square with a single appearance.
Jan 25, 2015 r-----ed discussion. It's a fictional song. His level of fame is 100% irrelevant. Besides, you don't need to be an absolute superstar to attract stalking weirdo's.
Jan 25, 2015 Could you imagine... being on the top of the world like that. Must've felt surreal. I bet he never thought he would crash so hard a few years later.
Jan 25, 2015 ^He probably thought he was just getting started. Five years later he was hiding in his mansion. Fat, alone, divorced, unable to write a basic verse, and overdosing on pain killers.
Jan 25, 2015 Lol really. Maybe he should make another movie based on his life. But instead of it being about his rise toward fame, have it be about his demise after it.
Jan 25, 2015 I always was surprised how early Stan was created too. The large amounts of obsessed fans really happened with that album...
Jan 25, 2015 You'll never convince me it was Vicodin and ambien that was his problem. He took that s--- recreationally for years and was fine. f---, didn't the CD for SSLP have a Vicodin on it? At a minimum he was taking methadone, Oxycontin, s--- like that. I'd bet money that dude was off in his bathroom injecting whatever the f--- he was using at the time.
Jan 25, 2015 ^Might've been. I've always hated the fact that he tried blaming his musical decline on drug use. Like you said he was doing more recreational drugs than ever during the SSLP-Devils Night era and that's when he made his best material. I think its pretty obvious that he just got burned out and ran out of s--- to talk about around the time of D12/Encore, then tried blaming his fall off on a pill habit.
Jan 25, 2015 definitely methadone. that's what put him in the hospital in 2007 I think? he must've been taking large doses at a time, too
Jan 25, 2015 the pill that caused the od was methadone. he said that the person who gave it to him didn't tell him what it was, and that what he assumed was the correct dosage was in fact not
