Its like I wouldn't put Dre in a top 20 rappers list. Yea Kanye is an extremely different case but I view them the same way

If we disqualify every rapper who has help when writing from the top 10, there wouldn't be enough rappers left to fill it.

Personally I put who I like the most in my top 10, I know its not the top 10 best oat but in the end idrc who has who in their top 10, I like the artists I like. For example Q is in my top 10, but I know he isnt in a lot of anyone elses. But do the other 9 in your 10 have what kanye has?

    Whos in your top 10?

No, because he's an average rapper that's carried by his creativity

Like op said, it matters when discussing rap ability. You cant have a ghost writer

But when talking musically or overall then it doesnt really matter

I guess to me, I would never rate a top ten in terms of just actual "rapping" because then you can get into the multisyllabic hopsin eminem """lyrical""" territory.

Like my top ten favorite rappers would probably be something like:
    Kanye
    Big Boi
    Pusha T
    Q-Tip
    Future
    Ghostface
    Thug
    Jay
    Weezy
Kendrick/Isaiah Rashad/Biggie/Pac/Freddie Gibbs/whoever there's so many rappers that could round out a top ten

And I don't think any of them stick out because they're all amazing rappers for different reasons. The way ghostface raps is nothing like the way Kanye raps but that doesn't mean they're not both great. Ghostface's lyrics are certainly way more dense than Kanye's, but I've never "felt" ghostface's lyrics on the same emotional level I've felt Kanye's. And that's not a knock at ghostface at all -- but he's the type of rapper who you listen to and think "holy s--- what did he just say" and have to rewind it to unpack it.

For me in more particulate, when someone says who are your top say, 10 rappers I'm thinking who are the best at the aspect of rapping. Maybe it gets muddled and branches off once a certain standard is reached, but someone like Kanye is a lyricist/mc who doesn't make the cutoff for me.

Whos in both of your top 10s? (Musically and rapping ability)

I guarantee you every rapper on your top ten has had help writing lyrics before. There's a big difference between someone having all their lyrics written for them and someone coming up with a concept and skeleton for a song and having others help them improve it.

Ye doesn't have a ghostwriter though, there might be other people in the room who contribute ideas, but it's ultimately his work and his vision. If we disqualify Kanye for having help, we have to disqualify almost every other who isn't a Young Thug "freestyle f---ing everything" type. There's no such thing as sole authorship in a major label situation and you're lying to yourself if you believe otherwise.

Also the "ghost" part of ghotwriter implies uncredited, Kanye has historically handed out credits like candy.

Rhymefest, Consequence, and CyHi wrote alot of Kanyes lyrics. Not help guide, they ghostwrote

Is it not inferred that Kanye didn't write say, the entirety of Gorgeous?

I doubt any rapper I consider top 10 would have had 'help' to that extent.

God that would be hard to make, especially the music list because that's even more subjective than pure lyricists/emceeing already can be.

I know I am convinced Biggie is the best pure rapper ever.

Give me time and may I'll make a list I'm satisfied with

Source? I'm sure they have written for him, but where do you get "a lot" from?

Don't buy the "Rhymefest/Consequence/Cyhi wrote entire songs" claims at all, refer to my post on page 1 for reasoning.
There's no trace of their styles in any of Kanye's songs. And where are these lyrics in their solo careers? Where is Cons' College Dropout? Why hasn't Cyhi dropped his Yeezus?

yes man, yes. the writing accusations are and always will be absolutely stupid

ye is top 10 pens in rap. the way he is able to evoke emotion is too good. no other rapper can do it like him. if you want an example of how good Ye's writing can be, peep Gone's last verse
