I mean if we're speaking musically I didn't think you were talking about conceptually, I thought you meant well the music... I think we could put him in the list on flow alone but lyrics n s--- dont matter. Kanye tops it tho

May be biased but not putting him in the top 10 is a disgrace.

Gotta be top 5.... he's the goat imo

Well like I also said in the thread for me, it gets muddled after a point, a lyrical standard. People have Tupac over Pun, but no one will tell you Pac was more proficient on the mic than Pun.

Basically does Kanye reach the standard for people, is his lyricism and mic prowess good enough so that the lines are blurred and his musical talent puts him top 10 on a rapper list with guys like Nas

I don't like it, but i'm like 99% sure it's true. I hate Kendrick's music past GKMC now, but on a cultural level the self centered rapper will not be compared to the "poetic savior of black americans"

When people say musically I think about the conception of music, meaning the direction sound etc because not everyone can produce their own instrumentals, not everyone can play their own instruments.

Not sure if trolling but this is true right now to most casual listeners, Kanye is a meme to a lot of uninformed people just an a------ rapper with no respect who believe he thinks he's better than he actually is

    Sad but true

Again once you let go of the lyrical standard as the sole reason then anything goes. Which is why i said "best rapper" is an entirely different category than "most skilled rapper".

But you ain't tryna hear me out bruhbruh.

yeah exactly I mean I was a pretty big fan of rap before I got into Kanye and I didn't see what was all that before I listened to his albums. Most ppl just hear the hits and see the news clips of him saying some s--- out of context, its kind of sick but thats what happens at the position he's in

like outside of making really good sounding music, what has Kanye done? Like something impactful outside of music that the world can kind of recognize him for?

it's like you look at Tupac now, anyone in this day and age that didn't grow up with him is sitting there like "hmmm he seems a bit overrated, i don't get the appeal?" and it's cause they just don't get it. they didn't experience, or hear about the cultural impact of Tupac's music so at the end of the day it's just generic better-than-average music to them.

(plz don't quote me like "aw boo boo muh donda charity")

I'm not a huge fashionista but Yeezy resales for thousands and is one of the most sought after brands, if thats what you're talking about.

No matter how acclaimed he is to people in the know (like rap forum listeners) Kanye's talent and music completely fly under (over?) the casual persons radar moreso than probably any big name rapper ever. It's his history of being an a------ and selling clothes for $1000 with holes in them that put a sour taste in everyone's mouth and now he got a wife w/ a fat a---

yousa b---- for catching feelings over a guy in another part of the world criticising someone's art that you did not create
    [IMG]
I think that's more of a trend though, that will slowly die off. like maybe kanye will have his high-end fashion brand later in life, but it only really adds to the self-centered image. "im rich and make clothes for rich people :) !" I've said for a long time his "we leveling the playing field in fashion" is such a f--- up, because leveling the playing field, by selling ripped, torn clothes at designer brand prices is f---ing stupid. imagine if he made designer clothes that African children could afford? suddenly Kanye is synonymous with clothing underprivildged people.

yeah its weird its like everything he does I think most ppl don't see the reasoning behind it and its mostly ye's fault. Like his s-----y clothing was supposed to be a statement about how you don't need money to be fly or something idk but it just got so overhyped that ppl would spend thousands to look homeless, or like the Taylor Swift thing all stems from the vmas when his main point was to bring attention to how award shows snub black artists.
