If anything, I think it’s proof that I’m not as biased as people thought I was. They thought I was a full on Kendrick dickrider, but if I truly enjoy Drake’s music I’m not gonna pretend I think it’s bad. I obviously prefer Kendrick and think he won the battle by a landslide and had the better album, but I also enjoy this new Drake music quite a lot and I’m not gonna stop myself from enjoying it just to be some glazer like some of these weirdo geeks on the internet do

Drake’s music has never made me feel the way The Fall Off did. I’m not kidding when I say listening to The Fall Off caused me actual mental pain because of how boring it was. It was legit exhausting for me to get through and I almost got a headache. That type of experience is rare. Actual mental torture. Might sound like I’m being harsh or exaggerating but I’m being deadass. And it’s a shame because I loved The Off Season from J. Cole.

Revisited Take Care today, which I’ve considered a classic but haven’t listened to in a couple of years. Try listening to Iceman and Take Care back to back.

On every level, whether it be production, features, lyricism, narrative arc, etc., Take Care is light years ahead of Iceman. If you knew nothing about the artist, you would assume that Iceman was an album that was made early in the artist’s career, before he had honed his skills sufficiently to make a body of music as sharp and compelling as Take Care.

30,000 foot view — Drake peaked as an artist capable of making great albums in 2011. He peaked as an elite-level rapper in ~2015.

For those that need a clear example: after everything Drake’s been through, nothing he’s made in the past 2 years is as compelling as this as a ‘f***-you-I’m-the-greatest’ type track:

The artist that made this level of music has been M.I.A. for over a decade.

He spent two years making what was supposed to be the most important album of his career, only to release what feels like a compilation of mixtape-tier diss tracks packed with subliminals at everyone who came at him, plus videos of him posing with lots (and lots) of guns. Really?

Drake emphasizing visuals of himself posing with 100 guns and Kendrick emphasizing visuals of himself playing hopscotch couldn’t be a better metaphor for the beef…
