Dec 29, 2014 Can you think of an artist similar to Drake and his sound that came out before him? I have no problem with Gambino getting influenced by other artists because good music is good music but bashing Drake for being "unoriginal" but then claiming Gambino is, is false.

Dec 31, 2014 I would say Drake's strongest skill as a song maker is his ability to package together what's hot and make it his own (or seem like his own) and then take that to a level it wouldn't have gotten to without him, my best example for this being what he did with Versace . In my mind, this is what makes him lose points for originality but I give him more points for talent because he's a genius at identifying what's hot and what will resonate with his audience. I would say, in my humble opinion, that Gambino is much more original than Drake based off of the last two projects I've heard from Bino (BTI & STN MTN, haven't yet peeped Kauai.... I know... I know It's a new years resolution.) Where Drake was one of the more original rappers in the game when he first came out with Comeback Season and SFG, I feel like more of his songs have drifted towards the status quo in the manner I described above, whereas with Bino I feel like as time has passed he's become more original and done more different things than Drake has. On the other hand, Drake is in a league of his own success wise so Bino has a ways to go. Both of them have their own place in my discography, however.
