Feb 18, 2021 It's because recovery made eminem a popstar. At his peak he was a mega superstar, but not a pop star. Further hurts his credibility too by doing so. Some people say, how come kendrick can do a song with Taylor swift, or snoop with Katy Perry and it's cool. They never built their career shi--ing on and belittling pop stars. For eminem to basically only do pop s--- from 2010-2017 is frankly textbook hypocritical sell out s---. Especially artists like rihanna and gwen Stefani who he had previously insulted/made fun of (for the record, I love both of their music but doesnt make a lick of sense for eminem's brand to work with them)
Feb 18, 2021 The responses to Relapse and then Recovery doomed us for years. I don't know who's been influencing him since Revival's flop but his approach has been solid since then. He could always work with more people, but he's been making more interesting collab choices at least and delivering respectable verses when he appears.
Feb 18, 2021 But Eminem didn't build his career on belittling pop stars. Matter of fact, he didn't even write a full song dissing pop stars(except Mariah in 2009 lol) during his peak. It was jab here, jab there at max and that's it. Very hard to call this a real instrument that was heavy used to launch his huge career.
Feb 18, 2021 Em didn't do collabs with pop stars at his peak though. He was so hot that he didn't need them. Same goes for 50 Cent too. So, when Em started doing collabs with pop stars heavy, it came off as though he was trying to use them to stay relevant on the charts or with the younger crowd. I don't fault Eminem for this, mind you, but I think that's was makes 2010-2017 Eminem stand out so much from his prime. It went from Eminem singing his own hooks on songs like Without Me, Cleaning Out My Closet, and When I'm Gone or having a rapper like Nate Dogg or 50 Cent singing the hook for him to having the most blatant pop stars like Rihanna, Gwen, Pink, Skylar Grey, Sia, Ed Sheeran, Kehlani, etc. doing hooks for him. And, like I said, I think this is mostly Interscope at work and not really something Em was pushing hard for himself. But it does stand out for the people that got into him during his prime.
Feb 18, 2021 I just wanted to point out that Eminem didn't build his career relying on shi--ing on pop stars. This is very common belief among his own fans and casual listeners for some reason, while in reality his most anti pop stars attitude was expressed on MMLP with a couple of lines.
Feb 19, 2021 The main issue is that Em has lost his hunger. When he first came on the scene he had so much to say That millions and millions of people could relate too. Along with amazing beats and flow it’s why his first 3 albums were such masterpieces. Yes I get that proof died in 2005 that basically nearly killed Em and f----- up his mind for years. I guarantee you 100 percent that if Proof never got shot there is no way in h--- Em would have gone on a 4 year hiatus and he never would have done songs with Rihanna, Pink, Beyoncé, Ed Sheehan etc! I blame Paul Rosenberg for making Em turn to pop. Em should have got rid of that loser in 2004. You hear on all the Em skits were Rosenberg is always f---ing complaining about Em toning down his music, only so much he can explain, stop using his gun behind his studio, and how MJ was going to sue him for the Just Lose It video etc etc. I mean you all remember when Em coincided Survival with the release of a COD game?LMFAO! That lame s--- had Rosenberg all over it! I bet Dre cannot believe some of the s--- Em has agreed to due to Paul. Give me tracks with Hospin, Kendrick, Jay Z, Nas, Redman, Snoop, Jay Cole etc over his pop star s---.
Feb 19, 2021 Anything else you like to complain about, like how you comment on s--- you listen anyway
Feb 19, 2021 Em’s music has gone trash. He can now only have 1 great song on a 17 track album and the rest garbage! In his prime it was 13 or 14 great tracks on a 17 track album. Like Discombobulated is better than anything he has done since MMLP2. So why not put more tracks like these on his albums? I just don’t get his thought process when it comes to making a new album.
Feb 19, 2021 I’m sure eminem has worked with a ton of artists (including nas) the music just never got released. Look at all the music dre has made that never saw the light of day.
Feb 19, 2021 Sorry but this is bull. First of all Em is a full grown up man now. When you're coming up, you want to collaborate with anybody. Whoever. Talented or not. Because you just want to reach as many people as you can and put as much music as you can out there. Then, once you become known and famous (without reaching the mega-star status) you start getting more selective. After that if (and it's a BIG "if") you ever reach the super star level, you obviously only want to collaborate with people of your status, people who can help you keep being up there, and also because if you collaborate with young, lesser-known, artists it's like you're selling yourself short. You want to prove your worth and artists need to prove they are worth it before you decide to work with them. But then, if you've been in the industry for 20+ years, always at the top, always in the spotlight, you might want to start giving back. And working with up-and-coming artists who you think will be great one day (or are already), as much as other legends. Also it should be noted that Paul probably filtered A LOT of artists back then, when Em was in his early 30s, he was huge back then and every single hip-hop artist probably wanted to work with Eminem and that's why you have managers. It's also a very well known fact that Eminem didn't charge for beats or features if he respected the artist, he did it for the love of hip-hop. So I don't get this demonization of him. When he talked about D12 on Stepping Stones, he didn't say he used them. At least I didn't get that from the song. What I understood is that he never meant to make them feel that way, but he's real friend in the group was Proof, and the other 4 were more like "pals" who he got along great, but once Proof was gone, the other guys didn't mean as much to him. Obviously all of us are worlds apart from Em, but I think we all have a group of friends, and within that group we have our one best friend and the rest are people we joke around with, we go out, have fun, we share a laugh or whatever but they aren't what keeps the group together. They're more like "filler" songs on an album.
Feb 19, 2021 agreed. syllables with jay, dre & 50 should confirm this. there's songs with rakim, LL, redman etc we'll never hear
Feb 20, 2021 love my group of friends that consists of my best friend and people who aren’t my friends, everybody has this
Feb 22, 2021 acting like eminem doesn’t have a label to answer to and makes all his decisions solely by himself
