Sep 2, 2017 i just think as you get exposed to more and more music eminem starts to feel alot more gimmicky and less talented than originally thought
Sep 2, 2017 He used to be great at it but now he can get lucky every once in a while. Add a kind of option
Sep 2, 2017 You like what you like, some people want acceptance by bashing Em, see it a lot on KTT etc. At the end of the day it's subjective, it is your entertainment not anyone else.
Sep 2, 2017 Yes and no. We all should of known he was going to bring the gimmicks with he skits and s--- he would rap about when he blew up with "Hi My Name Is". I still think he's talented though.
Sep 2, 2017 Except TWIA I agree with these songs still being great (even tho I only listen to like 3 of then nowadays)
Sep 2, 2017 I don't normally post in Em threads for that reason, just a lot of bashing and/or redundant discussions. @Ben is a good dude so I know I can have a discussion with him.
Sep 2, 2017 Maybe for you, me personally, I didn't care for Em much if at all, certainly wasn't the reason I got into hip hop. I thought he was fucken lame and a clown until people told me to look through his discography. Been exposed to a s--- load of music but Em remains one of my favorite artists, even with his glearing limitations post 2002. When I am disappointed by his music and annoyed I still remember how much I liked his earlier work, same with Nas tbh.. Maybe it is because I'm just chill in general, i don't hate any music, if I don't like it I just don't listen to it, some people (not you in particular), really want to come across as Edgy trashing peoples "Subpar" music taste because they listen to Em, or Drake or Jay Z or Cole etc. Insecurities galore.
Sep 2, 2017 I would be genuinly suprised if I felt any pure emotion from this album (unless there is a headlights esque song). It will probably be him f---ing around. Now I would love to hear Em capture his old great songmaking talent, it wont happen. Hes too closeminded and lets too many people judge his decision making. Many of us here would be better for him to talk to than anyone he is now. If he fired paul and told denaun to f--- off his songwriting would get so much better
Sep 2, 2017 yea im just askin a question that i thought was interesting given the huge divided among the forum regarding eminem cuz everyone is once an eminem fan tbh
Sep 2, 2017 or it's just that the style of music he makes is not what's popular right now, it's not the wave. we're trained to appreciate a different style of songwriting now bc it's everywhere. if everybody was writing songs in that structure (which they were), objectively he's the best at it.
Sep 2, 2017 not in a traditional sense, but people would say Uzi, Travis Scott and Thug are up there.
Sep 2, 2017 first one off the top of my head, PARTYNEXTDOOR. I think Royce Da 5'9 is a great songwriter too. There's actually quite a few. EDIT: SZA is also doing some great work too. She's written for Beyoncé a few times.
Sep 2, 2017 What's weird is that even though we say he is dated, and his style/formula is definitely now an outlier to what is popular in hip hop + hasn't put out an album in 4 years (No solo song in 2 years) he is still somehow maintains relevancy in streams. Jan - July 2017 (Hip-Hop/Rn Drake (3.7B Future (2.6B Kendrick Lamar (2.3B Migos (1.9B The Weeknd (1.8B Bruno Mars (1.4B Kodak Black (1.2B Lil Uzi Vert (1.19B Rihanna (1.18B Post Malone (1.17B Eminem (1.15B J. Cole (1.13B Big Sean (1.13B Kanye West (990M) Rae Sremmurd (981M) Beyonce (925M) DJ Khaled (864M) Chris Brown (847M) Kevin Gates (766M) Travis Scott (751M)
Sep 2, 2017 Uzi is alright, Scott used to be really good, and thug is s---. Besides all three probably get help from others Name one who writes all of his own music and doesnt have cringe bars I wouldnt lable PND as great, hes good though. And Royce is great but can get really boring imo
