You think the first time Michael Jackson moonwalked at Motown's 25th Anniversary people were thinking "hmmmm let's see if it can stand the test of time before we can call it THE most classic performance ever?". Come on mate. It's one thing if you don't consider MTBMB his 3 or 4th Classic. But don't tell us how we should think/feel. Specially when there's no actual rule or formula for this. This is art.
Dec 27, 2020 If you read my last post you will understand what I mean. The word classic is way overused and has almost lost it's meaning. Like when you say it's his 4th classic, I can't help but shake my head. You're attributing the word classic way too easily when it's supposed to be one of the highest honors. That's why I think several years need to pass before even bringing up the word "Classic". For example, All Eyes On Me from Tupac or I don't know, Dear Mama for instance. That s--- is a classic. The guy been dead for like 25 years and people still talk about it.
Dec 27, 2020 I agree that the word classic is thrown around too much and people should be patient for a while before dubbing something as a classic however, I think it’s fine if people use that term for themselves and not “objectively”. For example, there is a difference between trying to convince everybody that an album is a classic and just the album being a personal classic to you based on your enjoyment of it.
