Jan 10, 2021 f--- I gotta check that one out. I just got into him the last month or so. YouTube algorithm hitting me up with some great music 3 years later.
Jan 10, 2021 f--- no. If MTBMB dropped after TES it would be considered a huge flop. TES had Sing For The Moment, Till I Collapse etc.. Some of the best songs in Eminem's discography. Global hits. Songs that will go down in history. 20 years down the line people when people look back at Eminem's career, those are the songs people will remember. Those are the equivalent of what a Dear Mama is to Tupac or a Juicy to Biggie. Unforgettable hits. Plus the album is nearly flawless. MTBMB has nothing even comparable. MTBMB is a very solid album for Eminem at this stage of his career and the critics are overly harsh but let's not get ridiculous here.
Jan 10, 2021 Just a reminder for those who might have been dropped on the head and think MTBMB can be in the same discussion as TES. White America Cleanin Out My Closet Soldier Say Goodbye To Hollywood Without Me Sing For The Moment Superman Hailie's Song Till I Collapse I could have listed the entire album to be frank with the exception of Drips which is the only skippable song.
Jan 10, 2021 Higher is an amazing track on its own. Comparing it with Till I collapse makes no sense either. Em approached this track differently than he did with TIC. Y'all need to stop living in the past. His delivery on the scheme: I'ma beat my drum for the streets I'm from ...... is impeccable h---, the whole third verse is one of his finest career-wise. Y'all just didn't give the song a fair chance cause you're stuck comparing it with TIC. Move on lol
Jan 10, 2021 this MTBMB album sounds even worse than Encore! and I remember when in November 2004 I first listened to Encore and thought "what was that?" can you imagine when such a strange album as Encore comes out after the classic The Eminem Show / 8 Mile! But to be honest, now, after 17 years, even Encore sounds like a real classic to me, because there I still hear that real Eminem before his overdose.
Jan 10, 2021 Yes exactly. I noticed people here write messages like "This is the best Eminem album since TES", even since Recovery came out, then I saw such messages when MMLP2 came out, then when Revival came out, Kamikaze and now MTBMB. But a year later, people quickly forget about the new album and it is "not the best since TES". Just give these people one year and they won't even remember what MTBMB was.
Jan 10, 2021 It's all Curtain Call, who's still on the charts, and his old albums, his old hits. Eminem's new music doesn't make big numbers. MTBMB is not even the Top 20 of 2020 among music albums. No one doubts that Eminem has a good catalog of old hits, but who is interested in his new music? His new albums do not have the same popularity as the old ones.
Jan 10, 2021 Drips > Say What You Say But yeah, top 5 contenders on there - Sing for the Moment, Soldier... same can’t be said for MTBMB sadly.
Jan 10, 2021 The word "corny" has been used and thrown around so much in conversations regarding Eminem for many, many years now. Misused. For some people, everything is corny. It's like one of those words that, from time to time, becomes popular and people start using it all the time. There are many other rappers far way cornier than Eminem and I see they get much more love, in general. In my eyes, neither Higher nor Till I Collapse are corny at all. To me, NF is the definition of corniness.
Jan 10, 2021 If you can’t see that songs like Higher & Cinderella Man are attempts at Till I Collapse then I don’t know what to say. Saying “people need to move on” - it’s Em that’s repeating already tried formulas. Whether you like them or not is another topic.
Jan 10, 2021 Yup. Anything Em does nowadays is labelled corny outside of his fan base, hence the original point. I hate the word “corny” it’s used in a multitude of unconnected descriptions to the point where it’s lost meaning & used as a dismissive tool for Em’s music.
Jan 10, 2021 What I meant is that, if I was to use that word in the same way people use it all the time, then NF is who comes to mind. I don't know how that contradicts the rest of my post, but... OK.
Jan 10, 2021 Your whole thing about corny being a FOTM word to dismiss a particular artist and then switching it up and applying it to another artist. Just seems off. Also what is NF doing that he gets so dismissed? I don’t get it. (This question is not directed specifically at you.)
Jan 10, 2021 Again, I almost never use that word (if you check my posts, I think you wouldn't find it until these posts). But if I had to use it in the sense everybody uses it, then that's the artist I would think of to describe the definition of 'corniness' and apply it to music. That's all.
