Jan 14, 2021 The best, and also most cringy part about this review is how people will change their opinion, or now won’t even give it a chance because he says he doesn’t like it. I like what I like. I just personally don’t understand how people can lack that much agency within themselves to not think on their own At the same time when it comes to something like a movie persay, I’ll see what the critics say so I know whether to waste my time or not but even then just based on a trailer, I can also again make up my own mind on whether or not I want to see the movie I actually have no issue with Fantano. He explains exactly why he doesn’t like something. Gives details. I respect it. I just hate the sheep mentality but I also have to realize some of age demographic that follows him. They aren’t old enough to think for themselves yet. Sidenote: It was funny seeing him be serious when talking about Em’s bars knowing d--- well Em himself wasn’t serious with a few of them. And that mini rant about 50 Cent and the commercialization of Rap music was.... interesting. A nice little peak into how Fantano thinks about that era of Rap. Telling actually. But yeah, I just hate the sheep mentality.
Jan 14, 2021 Completely disagree with his view on 50, but he's technically not wrong. No one seems to remember now but old heads and purists went crazy when GRODT first dropped, claiming he had singlehandedly ruined rap and promoted commercialism and wasn't 'real' hip hop and how they wished everyone sounded like KRS-One and Rakim. So its kinda ironic how Em turned into the posterboy for 'real' rap. Just goes to show the same s--- happens every time something new and exciting comes around.
Jan 14, 2021 Imo. the Fantano review was pretty... genuine. I love Side B, easily Em's best album in years sonically. But much as it is replayable, it is corny too. Very corny. If Em keeps the production, flows, technicalities of the record while minimizing corny bars, that's something I would call GREAT.
Jan 14, 2021 Fantano just doesn’t f--- with Em’s music. MMLP2 would 100% have gotten a 4 if he released it now. Who cares though, if you like it that’s all that matters.
Jan 14, 2021 I keep going back to it. Way more than I did to Side A. Specially, front to back (skipping Black Magic though)
Jan 14, 2021 Fantano is a huge hypocrite when it comes to his reviews to be honest. He loves corny lines when it comes to 2 Chainz or old Lil Pump/Yachty albums. But when it comes to Em he analyses and critiques every d--- line that was obviously meant as a joke as if his life depends on it. Imagine being so sour that a few corny lines ruins an entire album or song for you lmao. This is the same guy that gave KSI’s debut album a 4 and Logic’s new album a 7 after criticizing him for years, just so he could interview them for his Twitch channel.
Jan 14, 2021 Some of you act like Fantano has this agenda against Em but he rated MMLP2 a 7/10. He has his reasons & even when I disagree with his points I can definitely see where he’s coming from. The reason he can rate a different project higher than Em’s despite it suffering from similar issues is due to expectations. Fantano knows how talented Em is, we’ve seen it in the first 3, so the standard was set of his capability & when he misses it by a country mile, people notice & get disappointed, understandably.
Jan 14, 2021 Every time someone says this and that Eminem line is corny, I imagine them looking like this: They clearly have no sense of humor and take themselves way too seriously...
Jan 14, 2021 It’s nothing to do with a sense of humour, it’s to do with the quality of writing. Are you trying to tell me there’s no humour on SSLP, MMLP & The Eminem Show?
Jan 14, 2021 Production is good. Hooks are forgettable. The intricate songwriting we've seen in songs in other albums isn't here. This project has its moments. Some impressive rhyme schemes, socially conscious lyrics and such. But the majority of it is stale: walmart/kmart, fast food, killing b------s, love songs, skylar grey features, mom's pills, forced puns etc. Em's been inconsistent for a long time. He's capable of masterful songs, yet chooses puts out embarrassingly bad ones. With Kamikaze, the quality control was tight. MTBMB, it loosened. And with Side B its unraveling.
Jan 14, 2021 The problem is Em forces these lines at awkward moments. Like when he's trying to make a serious storytelling song, or talk about racial inequality, and then all of a sudden comes out with a forced punchline out of nowhere, it just doesnt fit. He does this alot.
Jan 14, 2021 To be honest, I do understand the dislike over the excessive use of Skylar Grey. They have definitely made some s-----y music together on Ems projects but I think y’all are just hating to hate. Black Magic is one of the most sonically pleasing songs on the album. Atleast he’s talking about something consistently. 90% of the album he isn’t saying s---. And when you take all the meaningful bars/content driven lines on the whole album of side B not counting Black Magic and put them together it wouldn’t even make a full song. She killed it on this hook along with Leaving Heaven. Which Em was the weak link on leaving heaven over his flow. But Black Magic for me made a good opening song better than Premonition. Premonition was a recycled WISH version of The Ringer. Trust me I’m all for his technical prowess, I live for that s---, but the reason his newer music fades quick after release because he’s not saying a f---ing thing most of the time. PS after over 4 years as a member here and years before that as a regular watching guest (because I was still committed to hiphop shelter back then....RIP) this is finally my 1000th post!!
Jan 14, 2021 Half of Fantano's review is him just reciting a line in a sarcastic tone, not even saying WHY he thinks it's bad lmao.
Jan 14, 2021 I don't always agree with Fantano, but I agree with him on Side B. It really could've just been a few bonus tracks. There was not enough innovation here for a full LP's worth of songs. And it's awkward dumping all of these tracks onto the MTBMB album without having much of a theme or direction to it.
Jan 14, 2021 For real. I wasn't hyped at all, even on the first listen, and that literally never happened to me on an Em project before. Usually, I'm excited. Even Revival, I enjoyed the first playthrough.
