Oct 11, 2020 Lol should I just die and go out like a dog in heaven or should I fight my cancer and keep fighting?
Oct 11, 2020 I think it's a given nowadays that we will only get surprise drops. And if they're sensible they won't drop when the rumour mill is churning.
Oct 11, 2020 Absolutely. Surprise. Surprise is key to his appeal. Whilst he has written about a lot of the same topics, that's always what kept him or keeps any artist exciting is 'what will he do next?', 'how will he sound?'. If we feel we already know... it's not exciting. That, I think, is one of the main reasons for Revival flopping too. Other than it just being bad - everybody predicted what he was going to do, and how he was going to sound, and then he did exactly that. The first time I can remember with him where that was the case.
Oct 11, 2020 How exactly does that work with him being huge worldwide? People in Dubai aren't white lol. That theory is and always has been trash. He is huge because of his music. Not his skin.
Oct 11, 2020 You're right, let me rephrase that: Him being non-black, creating rap music which is, topic wise, mostly non-black, is the reason he has such a big, worldwide fanbase. No way Em would've been this big if he was black and did the gangsta-rap everybody else already did. I'm a fan, but it's undeniable that his skincolor worked in his favor. He even said so himself.
Oct 11, 2020 So he creates music arabic people can relate to more? Because he's not black? What about Aricans? I know many Africans who love Eminem. Are they not black? Yes he would have been as huge. "Lose Yourself" is still "Lose Yourself" regardless of what colour he is. Regardless of its themes. It's about MUSICALLY. If artists became big or music popular based on what you are saying - then every decent white rapper would also be huge. They aren't. There's one huge white rapper.
Oct 11, 2020 You talk about him speaking on non black topics and not doing 'gangsta rap' like everybody as though that's a bad thing. Certainly, his skin colour had a minor role to play in his rise, I don't deny that. But the reason he is considered influential is cuz he was doing things and speaking on things no one else was. And not just a limited amount of things of a specific kind, rather a huge swath of varied topics. "I don't do black music, I don't do white music. I make fight music for high school kids."
Oct 11, 2020 Deying that him being white is one of the reasons he's as big as he is, is ignorant. Yes, him signing with Dre at just the right time has been benificial for his career as well, as were many other factors. Would've he been as big as he is if he was black and signed to Duck Down? No. Like I said, Em even said it himself: Let's do the math, if I was black, I wouldn't have sold half. Watch the 60 minutes interview of 2010, he says so himself, somewhere in there. Not saying that he didn't keep his career going, because he is making great music. The longevity of his career is based on his skills as well. But being white is a big reason he was put in the spotlight in the first place.
Oct 11, 2020 I agree that he was influential because he was speaking on topics nobody else was. But you can't deny his skin color benefited him. White people weren't just attracted to his music because of the topics, but because he was white ("They connected with me too, because I look like them"). They didn't just protest Em because the topics he spoke on, the words he used, or whatever. Other rappers were using racial slur, gay slur, calling women b------s and what not. But they protested Em, because he was influential to white American kids. Protests done by mostly white parents. That's why he was the most controversial rapper of that time, and his skin color didn't just play a 'minor role' in that, in my opinion. Him staying on top was a combination of him being white and having skills. But he came up in a time where white rappers were scarce, and being a good white rapper was like being a unicorn. Like I said in the post above, he said it himself: "Let's do the math, if I was black, I wouldn't have sold half." Watch the 60 minutes interview of 2010, he says so himself, somewhere in there.
Oct 11, 2020 So it's safe to say the single produced by JW Lucas is probably shelved due to his comments?
Oct 11, 2020 That’s talking about his come up relating to American white kids, not his worldwide appeal within the last 20 years. He sold 2.5 million copies in China alone for Kamikaze within 6 months.
Oct 11, 2020 I'm feeling a heavy political album dropping right before the election. But i was thinking the same in 2016 and we had to wait another year for Revival.
