Jul 10, 2024 Yah the titles of this album.... The tracklist is terrifying compared to his other albums. Hype is real.
Jul 10, 2024 It isn’t that crazy in all honesty. There are some great tracks on those 3 albums that I still listen to today such as: Remember Me White America Rock Bottom Role model As the world turns Till I collapse b---- please 2 Criminal My dads gone crazy The problem is the albums haven’t aged well imo. The shock bars are outdated and honestly kind of gross. Guilty conscience is f----- up. Crazy to think I used to find that song “funny” or “great.” It’s not so much that the music changed, but I have. I have adapted with the times. At the time the production sounded fresh and some tracks still do, but the Dre production is stale. Maybe it’s because it’s 20+ years old and I’m used to modern production. People look at these albums with rose tinted glasses. They have lots of filler like today’s albums and the features are worse back then than they are today. D12 was god awful let’s be honest. Beyoncé, Royce, Black Thought, Pink, Ed Sharon, are all examples of bigger and better artists to collab with. No one wants to hear about f---ing your mom, r---, the word fa----, murder, incest, etc in 2024. We also have songs like Soldier where the wannabe gangster and production is so cringe I can’t even start the song. Em isn’t hard and never has been. He is more in touch with himself these days. Relapse was dope (minus a few tracks) because it was a concept album that he stuck to, and didn’t actually take himself seriously. The production and accents have held up incredibly well. The mixing and mastering on that album is also incredible. Just pure fun nonsense. He could be more introspective from time to time in his early days and that’s why I don’t get why people don’t enjoy Revival. We literally got a first person look into his life, family, and relationships. I hope that helps you understand my mindset a bit better. I am not an idiot, and can see why those first 3 albums are so greatly hailed. They just ain’t for me anymore. In 2008 I thought they were the holy grail, but I believe he has surpassed those albums ten fold. Funny thing is, Em probably agrees.
Jul 10, 2024 we thinking lot more stuff can be going on besides just the skits tracks in terms of the concept
Jul 10, 2024 I just like long rap songs lol, the only worry is if his pen can keep up with the length of the song which is something he used to be able to do.
Jul 10, 2024 Great question. I did touch on this on a previous lengthy post on this thread. Did you read all that? I can go more into detail if you want, but the gist is Relapse was Em having fun and you can totally tell. Em does have fun on MMLP, but also a lot of the hate and anger is real. The angry white boy persona was real. Sure, he won’t go out and do the acts he is saying on the records, but a lot of the things he said at the time were f----- up. I mean on Relapse he was saying all this f----- up s---, but doing it with a dope Arabian accent lmfao. It was a fun concept album after a long hiatus. His flow, cadence, and rhyme schemes are also top notch. Better than MMLP imo. More polished. People think because I have MMLP so low that I hate the album or something. I still genuinely enjoy the album and would still rate it around 6/10. I don’t think Em has a bad album per se. I just don’t think the sound of the MMLP or early 2000’s era has aged well. It sounds so dated, and the lyrics are not cool or edgy anymore. Dre did his thing, and there are plenty of classics but it ain’t the chronic 2001. I agree that Relapse lyrics also haven’t aged well, but at least they aren’t serious in the slightest. Relapse also is one of the best produced albums of all time imo. Dre killed it, and those beats still sound fresh and unique today. It’s all just opinions dawg, and I’m just trying to express mine. Music is subjective and a lot of it was the good times, feelings, and nostalgia we had when these albums released. Maybe Relapse is too high on my list and MMLP is too low. I’ll have to go back soon and relisten to some of these albums.
