Jul 23, 2024 Exactly! Started off so well with the roll out and video for Houdini. Renaissance was a great way to start off the album and should have been at least a 5 minute track. The problem with Em’s albums is that each one is filled with half classic Em, half a--- filler trash. I don’t get it, 5 or 6 tracks could have been removed from this album and it would have been a no skip classic!

But I'm almost Em's age so I grew up with the same old school hiphop that he did, and IMO rap started to go downhill when autotune and mumble rap started to get big, and I'm no fan of trap beats etc either... all of that is just not for me, and that is one of the reasons I listen to other genres a lot more than I used to back in the day since majority of hiphop nowadays is frankly quite bad...

Eminem talks about an alternate reality where he passes away due to drugs and Slim is reborn on the intro and causes him to go through s--- that would have eventually contributed to Eminem's demise back in 2007. Em can't escape Slim Shady, something which helped him become the legend he is. Eminem can't escape his addiction and he'll always be reminded of his past and how there's always a possibility and temptation to Relapse. And this addiction gets Slim Shady stronger too. No matter what he does, no matter how he improves, its just a never ending cycle that won't just ever leave him fully.

No doubt you'll pick out some silly lyrics from it but I can pick out silly lyrics from MMLP too. I'm not saying it's on MMLP's level but it's the closest he's gotten in tone, balance of humour, just vibe of the flow and just the right tonality.
