Jun 13, 2022 Business was definitely phenomenal back in the day, but today it just falls flat for me, especially next to Ain't Nuttin' But Music, which is like a more genuinely confident and less pretentious Business. That's why I cut D12 out of the latter years ago and extended the hook to make a 3 minute song. I haven't felt like listening to Business ever since. I hear the beginnings of Encore in Square Dance, namely the droning and rambling style characteristic to that album. Same with Business. (There are even more noticeable moments like this in My Dad's Gone Crazy to be sure, but they seem more appropriate here and in any case I'd say the final verse more than makes up for them.)
Jun 13, 2022 Everything is classic and fits the album for me. I would only replace Drips with Stimulate. Alternatively I'd add add a different Obie song with Em at that time but Stimulate needs to be on TES, it's too good.

Jun 13, 2022 I get what you mean to an extent. Devil's Night Eminem is him at the absolute peak of his powers imo, a solo album in that era and you're genuinely looking at one of the best rap albums ever. To have that version of him in between MMLP and TES just makes you realise how spoilt we were for quality from 97-02. That's without mentioning songs like 8 Mile Road and Lose Yourself in 03 which is some of his best work. There are definitely moments on TES that foreshadow a potential fall off, but I think you're talking about just a few questionable lines here and there. Comparing that to what we saw on Encore and virtually all of his albums after his return; the difference is staggering. TES is my favourite album because I prefer his style on songs like SFTM, Hailies Song, Say Goodbye Hollywood, Til I Collapse, White America, Cleaning Out My Closet. The consistency was still pretty remarkable tbh He mastered his flow on TES, the effortlessness of his rhyming and delivery on Business, Square Dance etc is unreal. He still sounded great, had immense charisma on the mic and flowed perfectly over great beats on songs that comprised thought provoking and witty lyricism.
