Nov 30, 2023 Majority of neoliberal society is alienated from the labour they produce, so whether consciously or subconsciously, they would rather choose the easiest form of unproductive labour route as it’s a shortcut. In a hyper-individualist society people have no attachment to others nor a collective mindset, so the repercussions of society aren’t part of the equation when picking a career — hence the ramp up in unproductive labour like influencers/streamers/podcasters etc. but the examples you gave of flipping burgers & picking up trash is still service work, just in a different field.

Nov 30, 2023 Lmao just explaining the contradictions that people are seeing. When productivity has doubled & wages have remained stagnant, it’s no surprise that the fabric of society is tearing. The social contract has been destroyed & people are quite clearly rejecting it in some form or another. Whether that’s through voting for MAGA (a rejection of liberalism) or rejecting all participation in productive labour. It’s very interesting!
