Dec 28, 2023 Depends on the metric of what you’d classify as success. As far as music, MGK got decimated in the raps, well, it was over before it started with Not Alike & Killshot was just one liner rebuttals of Rap Devil. But career wise, it does look like it bolstered his career outside of rap, with show/movie appearances & the beginning of his pop punk career, whether that was planned beforehand or not I have no idea. But he was already a pretty huge rapper prior to the Eminem diss, he had sold 10 million records at that point.

Dec 28, 2023 MGK wasn’t unknown. He was signed to a major label since like 2010 was pretty big in 2012 with that Lace up ep. His songs were played a lot on my college campus. Think he even had a couple billboard hits back then too. Also we all know P Diddy orchestrated that Diss and is the reason it charted.

Dec 28, 2023 Well d---, shows what I know about the hip hop world then because I'd barely heard of him. I have to wonder though if that beef was secretly a business arrangement he and Eminem made behind the scenes, as you hinted could be the case for all we know. I always thought it was suspicious that he responded with a 5 minute music video that was fairly well written and made just a few days after Not Alike dropped.

Dec 28, 2023 This is one of my favorite conspiracy theories that I don’t see people talk about enough. I remember hearing that MGK’s diss was uploaded privately to SoundCloud before Kamikaze even came out. I can’t remember if that was false or not though.
Dec 28, 2023 The more I think about it the more I think it's probably true. There's a certain brotherly mutual respect between them that was decidedly absent from all of Eminem's beefs up to that point. You could hear the blood lust in Quitter for example -- he sounded like he was really trying to give Everlast a heart attack. In Not Alike he goes off on a tangent about his favorite fruit spreads ffs.
Dec 28, 2023 Good points. Even with Killshot Eminem was pretty chill for the most part. I think a lot of people took that as Eminem just not taking MGK seriously enough to get angry about it, but what it really could be is that Eminem wasn’t mad about it because the whole thing was fake to begin with.
