Feb 1, 2018 The only song on SSLP with grit in his voice, is Role Model--in the outro. That, and the beginning of Brain Damage is about as hard as he sounds on SSLP. Oh yeah, on Evil Twin he mocks how soft he sounded "HI! fa----!" a few bars after the climax of the entire album. f--- TOP 5 b----, I'M TOP FOUR n that includes Biggie n Pac, whor- N I got an Evil Twin so who the f--- you think that third and that fourths SPOT FOUR ?!?!?!?//// ^^more fire in that line than anything on SSLP. he's always danced around staking claim to rap's mount rushmore, remaining very humble n praising those who inspired him. examps: “I joke, when I say I’m the best in the booth, but a lot of truth is said in jest.” vague mention on: Love Me, We're Back, leaked GOAT I also liked groundhog day : ) my opinion on SSLP's universal greatness: He didn't graduate into the aggressive and fully realized Slim Shady until MMLP. hear me out, '97 Bonnie & Clyde VS Kim Slim Shady EP pt 2 for me, low replay value. Haven't listened to My Fault, c-m on Everybody, As the World Turns, or I'm Shady in idk how long. Bass Brothers produced 16 out of 20 tracks (including skits) which was flat production. When Dre got Eminem, album was nearly done. Was basically SSEP pt2. Dre and Mel-Man produced Role Model. Dr and Mel-Man dominated production creds on MMLP with k--- You, REal Slim Shady, Remember Me?, I'm Back etc. [Bass Brothers delivered dope prod on MMLP with Criminal, Drug Ballad, Kim and Marshall Mathers. No Bass Brothers prod on SSLP can hold a candle to their work on MMLP] BASICALLY: on SSLP, his persona wasn't fully developed. His grit, shredded vocals and songwriting skills got dialed way up on MMLP. Most explicit controversy on SSLP would be Guilty Conscience and '97 Bonnie & Clyde (disposing of wife's body with his child). MMLP begins with Em raping his own mother, shooting up school bullies with Klebold + Harris, Kim (which got cut from clean version), capped off with Criminal, "if it's not a rapper that I make it as, I'ma be a f---ing r--ist in a Jason mask."
Feb 1, 2018 I don't want something hard from Eminem, he isn't a hard guy. He's a damaged human being beaten down by the world. Songs like Brain Damage, Rock Bottom or even As The Worlds perfectly capture how vulnerable he is. A lot of this is up to taste and I can't fault you for having different opinions than me but I also don't care about shock value a whole lot and I think squeaky clean production is bad for Eminem. SSLP sounding rough around the edges and the feeling that he just did not give a f--- throughout the record was what made it so great. My favourite Eminem song is Drug Ballad because it is a rare moment that showcases Eminem being truely moving and interestingly reflective over an amazing contrasting beat. So despite SSLP not holding a candle to his future albums production I still absolutely think it is a diamond in the rough and absolutely the greatest portrayal of Slim Shady X Marshal Mathers, it isn't corny, he is no super villain he is just a damaged man that has some twisted fantasies that helps him escape his own s-----y deluded existence.
Feb 1, 2018 That's one of my favs too! When it comes up on shuffle when I'm listening to music, gives me an excuse to pop an extra 30mg Adderall . Adding foresight (babysitting while Hailie's out getting smashed) to the party/recreational drug use gave Drug Ballad something that most 'lean, syrup, sip that' s--- songs don't have. PS: interesting fact---I read that he originally wanted to name the album Amsterdam after doing lots of drugs while touring the Netherlands.
Feb 1, 2018 I never heard of this, that's interesting. I wonder what the cover art would have been and how it would be received
Feb 1, 2018 SSLP could have the title of MMLP and no one would bat an eye, Slim was not an alter ago on this album I feel like, it waa just an enhancement of his personality.
Feb 1, 2018 When I had the cd thats the cover I had, i thought it was his family house he was sitting in front of honestly
Feb 1, 2018 Nah and there was also this other picture taken in Amsterdam around the time that potentially could have been the cover too
Feb 1, 2018 Prefer MMLP2 over Revival. The only thing Revival has is that’s its months old... and that’s it. Underwhelms He ABSOLUTELY scrapped an Album when Trump won and started over
Feb 2, 2018 This album cover is way better. I was trying to get a vinyl on ebay for this cover but could only find the alternate of him sitting on the stoop. I noticed Target and FYE only sell the CD with the alternate.
Feb 2, 2018 This looks like a photoshop for sure <div class="tumblr-post" data-href="https://embed.tumblr.com/embed/post/x34ZA7g-M8iFKrIXK27xdQ/170432562654" data-did="da39a3ee5e6b4b0d3255bfef95601890afd80709"><a href=""> <script async src="https://assets.tumblr.com/post.js"></script> But then there's this photo from the same room <div class="tumblr-post" data-href="https://embed.tumblr.com/embed/post/x34ZA7g-M8iFKrIXK27xdQ/170432269884" data-did="da39a3ee5e6b4b0d3255bfef95601890afd80709"><a href=""> ***lemme know if it's not showing properly (2 images in white room) yeah....Medicine Man is great and has had good replay value. fav line in italics "I'm starting to slow and these lines full of nines I just load up the most rhymes and open fire with a closed mind All I needed was someone to co-sign, been a (Doctor's) Assault rifle with the sniper scope for this whole time Day one, set with the blasters, give me the orders, I spray uh Pain in the a--- and get shot in the a--- with a paint gun Ain't no one safe from, non-believers there ain't none I even make the b------s I r--- c-m Awesome closer line, like his 2001 feature: "So what's the difference between us? We can start at the penis, or we can scream I just don't give a f--- and see who means it!
Feb 2, 2018 Eh. It stands amongst the rest of his discography uniquely with a few others. No comedy, crass jokes. Just seriousness without coming off forced and a unique drug influenced/rock instrumental that also seems natural (something hed attempt later and fail miserably at). The song is like after the party, when everyones left and your coming down off your high, a wierd self reflective moment of soberness amongst the mess. And the allusions to the seven deadly sins at the end is pretty goat imo.
Feb 2, 2018 It comes off very forced man. The whole "im misunderstood the masses just think im crazed if you knew me you'd know im not dont take my music literally" angle he always shoved down people's throats after MMLP is all over the song. The hook is very generic and one of his most boring tbh its like a lose yourself demo of the demo
